TGP double standards
I'm curious from people that run TGP's with the standards below what the real justification is. I can only presume it's that galleries aren't really wanted at all unless paid submissions. Certainly that makes sense financially if you can pull it off but why not admit it from the outset?
To explain what I'm rambling on about : Just got a rare rejection e-mail from the hun. As most of you know he (or nowdays his reviewers) rarely sends rejection e-mails at all. This one simply stated that my movie gallery was rejected because the design was 'based around an ad' ie it was a design that was themed towards the site it was selling although it still only had two sponsor links. The e-mail went on to say it drew too much attention to the advertising (do others remember days when the hun never used to mind listing galleries designed to sell?) and not the content which to be honest is the idea as far as I'm concerened ie to get clicks on the advert. Nothing unusual so far as it's pretty much the norm these days for many TGP's (thank god people like Shemp still exist who do undertsand we are all trying to make a buck). Where my bitching comes into it is the gallery still has FAR less advertising than any in the top 20 spots. Now if the rejection was to keep his surfers happy the same rules would surely have to apply to the first 20? So it seems to me it's simply to say 'fuck free listings I want money for them'. Not so much of a problem if that's the way any TGP wants to go but it'd be far better to be honest about it. |
Even those of us who pay for listings there have had their galleries rejected by Patrick before. You still have to follow his rules for the honor of paying to be listed there....LOL
If you read what he says, he doesn't count sponsor links, he's often said a gallery with 50 thumbs and one banner can look worse than a gallery with 10 thumbs and 5 banners. Its all how you lay out the page. Just because only 2 things on your gallery were linked to the sponsor, the page could still be screaming "advertising" |

The point remains that MUCH more advertising is allowed in paid listings which totally makes a nonsense about keeping bookmarkers happy by keeping stuff clean. Just about all of the paid listings can easily be seen to have far more advertising - again not something unique to the hun by any means. It's not so much that there is a big difference rather it's all the bullshit about keeping the srufers happy. The paid listings very much prove that a little bit of effective advertising isn't going to piss them all off as is so often screamed on baords or in rules sections. |
It's simple really,
1) Why do webmasters reject 'bad' galleries?> To make the surfers happy> leads to more hits> leads to more money. 2) Why do webmasters accept 'bad' paid gallery listings?> To make the webmasters happy> leads to more paid listings> leads to more money. Now I agree with you Tipsy, a webmaster with a brain would understand that bad paid listings will (on the short term) make him more money, but make him FAR LESS on the long term, because the surfers would stay away. I guess the trick is to have a good balance with 1) and 2). But why they reject galleries with good advertising? Beats me, it's a paradox. They should add to their rules: No galleries that have a way too good selling potential! |

Just admit the REAL truth and place the blaim where it belongs. Obviously others know how to make money and make surfers happy and you don't. |

SleazyDream really said it best though. Pay to get listed, or stop bitching. |

Horns guy - nah. Bitching is what the board's here for. I often use and will continue to use paid listings and do very well from some. Again you missed most of the point but fuck it's GFY. You can expect little less from people :) Like I say though I made the point and have nothing else to say. It's not worth argument and never was an attack on rules as such shich is obvious if the first post is read properly. |
What was interesting to see though was that some guys with paid listings do get their galleries rejected.
That was not what many people thought to be the case. |
It's all about the focus. On Thehun the focus has to be on the content not the ads.
Center ads most of the time draw the attention away from the content. Galleries with centerads do get listed on Thehun, but not all of them. |
