Anyone use FileVault on OSX?

Anyone have experience with enabling FileVault on their Mac? Any noticeable performance hits on SSD's?

Yup.

Works like a champ on HDDs or SSDs. Don't back up your key on apple's cloud. That's a trap.

Also, it's closed source so it's only good to keep your data safe from a laptop thief and nothing more.

Where do you recommend storing the key? I was thinking about storing it on a secure note within Lastpass.

Anyone else?

I use boxcryptor and cloud storage for files that needs to be secure and where I need to be able to restore them.

I use time machine for backups in 2 different locations. I lost all my data including backups once, never going to happen again

I did not save my key for the hdd encryption, I think that is a pretty big security risk. I do use file vault and it works excellent for me.

amen to that.

We just started implementing it for everyone in the company. I love the shared logins / hide password options.
