Glow-in-the-dark? Lamborghini seized by London police

http://l3.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/BD...enshot_101.jpg

If you're 24 years old and a member of Qatar's ruling family, what car would you drive around town? A 'glow-in-the-dark' Lamborghini Aventador, worth around $500,000, of course. But if you forget your driver's license and the proper insurance documents while navigating the streets of London, don't for one minute think the local police might offer you a royal pardon. Instead, they'll give you a ticket. And tow your one-of-a-kind supercar like it's a rusted '94 Honda Accord.

This particularly insane Lamborghini is thought to be owned by Nasser Al-Thani, a mere 24 year old with Qatari parents so wealthy they presumably own such things as floating skyscrapers, fur coats made from wooly mammoths, and an entire mansion filled with nothing but jelly beans.

The incident reportedly began by police noticing the attention-grabbing supercar had no front license plate. After stopping the car and quizzing the driver, the space-aged Lamborghini was taken aboard a flatbed truck to the impound lot. I doubt Nasser Al-Thani struggled for a ride home, however. This car is one of many oddly painted, ludicrously expensive sports cars the young man owns. Or perhaps this time he took the chromed helicopter, returning to his house full of Haribo.

You don't need to carry your DL or any insurance documents with you while driving in the UK (just to clarify). Most likely was the missing front plate made it 'unroadworthy', hence the tow.

Front & rear plates are legally required, this car was missing the front plate - I can only guess that the 'crime' was that the car was unroadworthy - which would mean a tow.

It's also of course possible he doesn't have a DL, or the car was uninsured, or untaxed. If your car tax has run out and you didn't renew, that's an automatic tow to the pound, I know that 100%. I can't be 100% on the other 'crimes' resulting in a tow. But... simply not carrying your DL or insurance documents 100% does NOT result in a tow.

I hate to say it but that car is sweet

livexxx 06-28-2013 04:22 PM

Would also get a canary for the dark tints on the front side windows and fail a roadside light meter check, thats a remove them on the spot or get a tow as well. I'd imagine the exhaust is too loud as well as I doubt it is running a standard set of pipes.

Don't worry, some phone calls will be made and he will get some sweet diplomat tags so he won't suffer through such embarrassment again.

yes, its a requirement to have front and rear plates.

but I'd have to guess that he was towed for something else, probably either an invalid license or no insurance.

When i was in CA i got pulled over a few times for no front license plate but they would never tow a car for that. In AZ no one has a front license plate.
