You can't go to a restaurant these days

Without some fucking idiot at the table next to you taking a pic of their food as soon as it arrives.

I swear every time i go out for a meal now, i always see someone sitting taking fucking pics of their food, and then quickly no doubt uploading to whatever social media before actually eating the fucking thing.

TGI Friday's in the worst place over here for it. Every cocktail, then starter, main course, and sweet that arrives at someone's table, the phone comes out to snap pics.

Can't people just enjoy SOME things the old fashioned way anymore ?? :Oh crap

You complain a lot. Maybe it's you that should learn to enjoy. :winkwink:

Who the fuck is showing off their meal at TGI Friday's of all places? That's doubly pathetic.

I taught some photography classes and one of the first lessons.

There has only been ONE good picture EVER of people eating....and You arent Leonardo DaVinci

suesheboy 06-25-2013 12:49 PM

Folks with high Klout scores sometimes score free eats and drinks...

BlackCrayon 06-25-2013 12:52 PM

i don't get the taking pictures of your food thing. they should be taking pictures of their bowel movements after the meal as well for the full experience.

Human idiocy abounds. What's more frightening is it knows no bounds. Eating, walking, driving, all being affected. I'm sure some even work their technology while fucking. If they figured out a way to be facebooking and texting while sleeping, idiots will start doing that.

Nothing is sacred.

baddog 06-25-2013 12:58 PM

As far as why someone would take a photo prior to eating it; it is all about the presentation. That is kind of diminished once a fork hits it.

dude. i was just bitching about this too! it's way out of hand, fuck bad drivers, we need to deal with bad walkers. no shit!

Choopa Phil 06-25-2013 01:09 PM

Stop going to TGI Fridays to eat?

PR_Glen 06-25-2013 01:10 PM

A better question would be why the fuck are you eating at TGIF in the first place? hehe Eating in better places may save you from such things!

I never understood the taking pictures of food thing myself though. It never looks good, if you see how much lighting and 'modifying' they have to do to food for a commercial or a magazine it is ridiculous and unappetizing. I do post about my meals often, mostly because I have a lot of people asking, but I have yet to post pictures of it because it never translates well on cam.

lezinterracial 06-25-2013 01:14 PM

Doesn't really bother me unless they are on my facebook feed. I usually just remove them from the feed.

Unless I was 16 and I was in love with some girl that posted pics of her food. Then I would like and comment on all of her meals.

RuthB 06-25-2013 01:15 PM

Taking pics of the food is one thing, but what really blows my mind is when a table full of people at a restaurant/bar/etc all sitting next to each other IN PERSON pull out their cell phones and start having text marathons

The problem is, while they're doing that they're not paying any attention to the actual real in-person people who are sitting next to them! I find that pretty rude :Oh crap

Personally I think it's a real shame, in some ways social media seems to be making society less social! :error

CDSmith 06-25-2013 01:15 PM

A lot of self-proclaimed food critics out there perhaps? I can see it, as everyone these days is convinced that their opinion matters to everyone else so much so that they must blog about everything they do every day or the world will end.

This is how I eat. This is what I eat. This is what they gave me to eat. This is a bad pic of what I ate looked like before I ate it.

This is the way my barf looks.

Whats worse is when people get a call during dinner and want to have the entire conversation, right there! If it is important and cannot wait until after dinner or whatever, please excuse yourself and go handle it.

I wish more people did that.

TGI Fridays in Glasgow isn't quite like your average shithole TGI's in North America. The food is good. Anytime I am home for a visit, I make a point to go for cocktails, I love it!

baccybandit 06-25-2013 02:23 PM

I dont mind people taking photos of there food it dosn't affect me what so ever.

What annoys me is

SCREAMING KIDS AT A RESTAURANT AND THERE PARENTS DOING FUCK ALL ABOUT IT!!!!

You dont take you kids to a restaurant you don't take your kids to a pub if you want to go to ethier then leave the kids at home!

dehash 06-25-2013 02:41 PM

Is that what really bothers you? LOL
I personally hate to go to lake beach and see some old cunt taking her fucking little dog on public beach and let it swim in same place where kids swim. Or fucking smokers on beach next to me. Same shit in public parks where sign said NO DOG ALLOWED.
Last Sunday I went on Milford Beach in CT - it looked like dumpster. Dirty diaper on beach sand looks fucking gross.
So I am OK with people taking pics at TGI :)

Should we open THE HATE thread and post all negative experience over there?

One of the most embarrasing restaurant experiences I ever had was with my sister and her first daughter who was 2 at the time at our favorite Chinese place we hit up regularly. She wasn't interested in eating and started fussing and throwing things (my niece, not my sister:upsidedow). I tried to get her to stop. She hurled an eggroll that landed at an adjacent table. The owner came over and told us that if we couldn't control her we would have to leave.:uhoh

I'll take a dog swimming in open waters over people in a crowded pool any day. Dog pooping on the beach is a different matter. I'm more concerned by the guy who spends hours in a hot tub where drinks are being served while everyone else leaves for occasional expected bathroom breaks:upsidedow

Sarah_Jayne 06-26-2013 12:21 AM

I've food blogged for years now. It feels weird not to take photos at meals.

Also, I know that I have benefited from others taking pics just from reading Yelp reviews and the like. There could be a lot worse things than people being the tiny bit creative.

Petra 06-26-2013 12:28 AM

People taking pictures of their food doesn't annoy me as much as my father in law spending his whole 6 week freakin vacation in France taking picture of every meal then inviting us over (saying no isn't really an option sadly) to see his vacation pictures and making us sit through 4 hours fo fucking food pictures (he's retired and has no hobbies aside from this one...sigh).

This year's holiday is 8 weeks in France...sigh.

mikesbestx 06-26-2013 12:38 AM

yeah sometimes it's crazy out threre:-) I just meet some good friends, at a nice place, no fucking sitting around an iphone and watch stupid things or posting shit on facebook, just talk directly to another human being, laugh together and drink togehter.... thats crazy:upsidedow. We'll all get back to old fashioned stuff, thats for sure!

People who do that think they are special, like every narcissistic anti-social idiot who is extensively using facebook and other anti-social media. What a bunch of idiots.

Commercials play into the craze alot. Commercial of a camera, you see someone take a picture of some guy and it says 'with this camera you can instantly share it on facebook!'.
Why? Why would you want to share average pics everyone and their mother makes with other anti-social media freaks? What the fuck is the reason? The commercials don't know either.

Latest commercial being aired here, where essentially they make fun of and ridicule social media for it's utter uselessness, with worthless dumb information:

Funny thing is, 99% of the viewers don't see the underlying message in this commercial how useless social media is: 'My potato looks like elvis', followed by several people with a sheepish gaze saying 'like'. Brilliant commercial, where the creators show how completely stupid, time-wasting and useless social media has become, and at the same time market this phone to the braindead social media power users.

dehash 06-26-2013 04:21 AM

What if you find out this people making ..say $5K per month sharing food pics with Twitter and Facebook followers/friends? As long as they don't take pic of me or my family I don't care.
I personally hate when people do flash photography at concerts. Fucking flash flash flash unstoppable.

He is not talking about exceptions like this. At least 9 out of 10 are not making money posting food pics on their fb or whatever.
