The Alberta Emergency Alert has just taken over the TV.

I once owned 14 acres on a river. Lesson learned.

Rochard 06-21-2013 11:32 AM

This is why I own two four wheel drives. When the shit hits the fans I'm taking to the hills.

I saw this on the news today. My first thought was "this weather is getting worse and worse".

didnt know there were that many people in all of Alberta ;)

2MuchMark 06-21-2013 11:44 AM

My mother in law and all of the other residents of an old folks home were evacuated, and apparently just in time too. Bad situation in Calgary...

Ross 06-21-2013 11:51 AM

I have family in Calgary who have been posting pics on FB, pretty scary times for them, they are all well fortunately.

I was watching some youtube vids and checked out some articles.. yeah man.. that looks like a disaster x 50!!

This is what happens from deforestation, mining, fucking with environment in general.. etc

Going to see a lot more flooding in the next few years.. even out here in NB it's starting to pick up each season... Glad I'm 8 metes above the SJ river system here...

Validus 06-21-2013 12:38 PM

Internet is back :)

It's crazy. The little sump pump is working hard.

Fat Panda 06-21-2013 02:41 PM

far from a war zone

ZombieMovies 06-21-2013 02:56 PM

They've started evacuating zoo animals to the courthouse for their holding cells. It's so bad. I will mostly remain unaffected other than my basement, but that's not a big deal. My family have been evacuated, and it's just really devastating the morale, honestly. Ugh.

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh come on.. courthouse actually filled with wild animals is devastating to morale?

ZombieMovies 06-21-2013 03:51 PM

:| If you really think THAT was the point of my post you're an idiot. The animals were a tidbit.

The devastation of the flooding is what's horrible. Are you that dumb?

_Richard_ 06-21-2013 03:52 PM

it was a joke to lighten the situation, eh. going on about morale and such

but, back to self pity

Most was precautionary.... lessons learned from the 2005 flood. It's bad, no doubt, but the city has 1.4 million people in it.

Now if you want to see a real disaster - check out "High River, Alberta". It's sad and ironic. The entire town got wiped right off the map. That's the real story of this flood. If anything Calgary won't have their Stampede ready in time this year (Stampede grounds are completely under water right now).... but i'm sure we'll sink millions into getting it ready. :2 cents:

EddyTheDog 06-22-2013 10:28 AM

I was amazed at the size of Calgary - I don't know why but I always assumed it was a little ski resort - Turns out it is a major city!!!

It looks pretty bad - Good luck.....

globofun 06-22-2013 10:29 AM

That's real bad......lived there in 1982

Bladewire 06-22-2013 11:22 AM
