Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" Hits #1

The song "Blurred Lines" by R & B singer Robin Thicke hit #1 this week down from #6 on Billboard. The song is really gaining momentum now. Song of Summer 2013? How long it will stay there is anyone's guess. Who hasn't seen the video yet? It's posted below. That is the unrated version which has attracted a lot of controversy. There seems to be two point-of-views among female journalists regarding the video. Some like it and realize what the artists are doing... whereas others immediately judge it as degrading towards women. Your thoughts?

I really don't think they did that as a "marketing ploy." I really believe they did it for the reasons they stated. Scantily clad women isn't something new in music videos. Duran Duran did it as far back as 1982.

You said it best. I think that's what's happening out there right now. That's the kind of appeal the song has.

PornDiscounts-V 06-18-2013 06:11 PM

Not the summer song

NaughtyRob 06-18-2013 06:39 PM

I fucking HATE that song.

It is too early to tell yet, but it could very well be the case. I think Icona Pop's song "I Love It" will be Summer Song 2013. Or possibly Daft Punk's "Get Lucky."

BTW, your taste in music doesn't matter here. You can dislike or like it all you want. It's what the public responds to that matters. Last summer "Call Me Maybe" was the Song of the Summer. Now I just know that most of you knuckleheads didn't like that song. But that doesn't take away that it was the Song Of The Summer 2012. (I can only speak for the US here.)

Theonly reason it is popular is well - how about you try muting the song and you tell me, ok?

Sarah_Jayne 06-18-2013 09:23 PM

Lose Yourself to Dance has sleeper quality. While folk are looking at Get Lucky, it gets a ton of club play too....a Pharrell filled summer ahead.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 06-18-2013 09:41 PM

Few phrases are a bigger turn off than "I know you want it." Gross, gross, gross.

Harmon 06-18-2013 10:04 PM

Yeah, Alan Thicke's kid. lol.

Hard to mute such a catchy song. Popularity doesn't make a song bad. I dislike most Top 20 stuff, but right now there's a few good ones in there which I already mentioned.

songs at the top of the charts aren't there because they're good. they're there because they are paid to be.

So you mean to tell me that Daft Punk is paying Billboard to put "Get Lucky" in the Top 3?

Your first problem is listening to music radio.

I like the song but probably because I mostly control when I hear it.

dillonaire 06-20-2013 01:57 PM

i like it!

Keep it thick.

Exactly. I've never heard any of these songs on the radio.
