Well, Its Been Nice Knowing You All - BP 187/110!!!

WTF?!?

I thought giving up the fags would bring it down, not put it up.....

Seriously, I have been trying to get my heath under control - Stopped smoking, cutting down on the beer etc...

I'm having a beer now to stop the panic setting in - :Oh crap:Oh crap:Oh crap.....

dyna mo 06-02-2013 12:12 PM

Women are probably more stressful.

No matter how many times I've asked a nurse why they are frowning when measuring mine I still have no idea what 'good' blood pressure is :-/

signupdamnit 06-02-2013 01:55 PM

That sucks. Call the doctor. :(

In the long term try some slow breathing exercises and meditation. Change your diet. There are things you can usually do depending on the cause to bring it down.

It's really hard to say what you 'should be' - There are a load of variables - For example do you panic at the site of a nurse or doctor?....

Mine is scary high though - I am an ex-nurse so I almost know too much - It probably jumped up even higher again when I saw the figures...

you are actually prettty lucky, there are tons of things you can do and meds you can take that handle that.

i have the opposite issue, ultra-low bp. nothing to do about that except don't stand up real fast.

It was the Doc that took it.....

He put me 'Ramipril' - It makes me feel sick, but...

My mum has the same - Last time she went to the GP they wanted her to go to hospital - It was something like 75/45 - Virtually dead...

yeah, i've been in that ballpark more than i'd like to admit.

i had always thought low bp was fine but when this issue cropped up, i learned the latest thinkning is it is just as risky as high bp.

If you ever end up having surgery make sure they know - They start to panic at at about 90/-, you could end up with all sorts of meds you don't need...

The human body is a wonderful thing - If it has been chugging along with a low BP then it will have adapted in certain ways - If they suddenly boost you up you could end up in trouble.....

fitzmulti 06-02-2013 02:55 PM

187/110 ? That's it?
Mine was 260/160 and I came back from that.
No lie! ;-)

You should probably try meds if you haven't already - in some cases they can be very effective

Supposedly doing just slow breathing and meditation can knock the top reading down 10-20 points. It makes sense if you think about it where stress is a factor and it often is to some degree.

Nope. Doctors / nurses don't bother me at all - if anything I can end up bothering them instead by offering to do things myself if they are shit with needles or otherwise incompetent.

appreciated.

the docs figured it out the hard way last time, not being able to find a vein for an iv- no pressure = no vein.

There are lots of other things as well - Do you cycle in traffic to the surgery, or maybe get a busy bus/train?..

Hang on a minute.....

You are meant to be placating me, not the other way around!!!

Diet plays a huge role in blood pressure. About a year ago I was in the hospital for something unrelated and found out I have high blood pressure. I am still on some meds, but I started eating a very low sodium diet and that alone dropped it by a lot.

Look into what you are eating. If there is a lot of salt in it, try cutting as much out as possible and I would guess you will see a drop in the BP.

If you don't want to take harmful meds these will work as well or better.....

It pretty much did...I almost died, was in the hospital for two weeks, etc, etc...

PR_Glen 06-02-2013 05:20 PM

That is very serious, go to the doctor immediately. They will give you meds to fix it, there are a lot of good ones out there without any side effects so it isn't the end of the world.. but if you don't? It will kill you...

These things aren't always as simple as lowering stress, deep breathing or lowering salt intake (which doesn't even work unless you eat FAR too much already).. you can fix all that tomorrow and it will only give you a 5% drop after a few months.. Sometimes these things are more hard coded in you. Mine didn't even budge with all those moves. Losing some weight helped the most but I'd still die if i didn't take medication for it, so PLEASE do not take that lightly, it will kill you faster than you think..
