NEW Star Trek, Nothing original. Nothing.

Is there a shortage of writers?

Must every single movie now, not only be a remake, but they can't even come up with anything original??

Khan?? Really?? The writers think they are so 'clever' by just taking an already hit script and just reversing a few things to pass it off as a new film?

Kirk dies, instead of Spock, Spock yells "Khan!" instead of Kirk. Kirk comes back to life instead of Spock in a dreadful meaningless film?

With the millions they have to make this film CAN'T THE WRITERS COME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW??

Star Trek has the ENTIRE universe with a crew of amazing special effects masters and all they can come up with is.... let's RE DO KHAN?? and do it badly.

I didn't even care for the wasted use of Klingons..... dozens all killed by one man? Sure, Khan is super human, but he is using a gun to kill them all, and what, Klingons don't have guns??

Who put the clit rings in the Klingon's heads?? LOL

More importantly, they are rushing the friendship between Kira and Spock. Already Spock is weeping like a little girl for his dead friend? They've only known each other for a very short time?? No bonding?? No history first?

And enough already with Spock and Uhura. IT DOESN'T WORK. He's a fucking Vulcan morons. That relationship is ruining the whole point of the character of Spock.

I enjoyed the first film and thought it was great. This one is just masturbation.
Nothing new, no NEW eye candy. No wild and new worlds to encounter... just a white boy, Khan, with blue eyes with a "Bain" voice from Batman. Hello.... Darth Vader has the voice.... now every movie has to have a villain with a dark scratchy audio enhanced voice?

And what in the HELL is Khan's purpose?? Sure the Admiral needed info from him to achieve knowledge, but what was Khan's motif for being so evil? No motif, nothing. The filmmakers are relying on the fact that everybody knows who Khan is.

Star Trek Dark something, is entertaining, and keeps you watching, but when it's done, you walk out with nothing new to think about. No new story, just the same old crap.

...and Lt. Uhura is NOT a super hero..!!! She's the communications officer!! Why in the hell they beam'd her onto the moving roof top of that ship to help Spock is beyond violating continuity. The series is becoming a Super Hero rip off and moving away from what Star Trek is supposed to be. It's supposed to tickle your brain and your eyes, not just shake the camera at the lights and re do the same old story, badly.

If those mother fuckers ruin the new Star Wars coming out, like they are ruining Star Trek, then the end of good science fiction will soon be complete. Science fiction hits will only be for 15 year olds that have no idea good sci fi film used to have a STORY and wasn't just explosions and alien make up.

:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup
As a prequel to what took place in the whole Wrath Of Khan movie / storyline, it actually was good.
Introduced Nurse Carol Marcus, who became Dr. Carol Marcus, etc...
Mention of Nurse Chapel....etc, etc...
Young, pre-Star Trek original series Khan introduced...

Sets things up for the future (albeit long ago...LOL!) Story lines.
Brings things together, man.

I DO concede that Spock yelling KHAN was stupid...

well you do have a point with the remake of khan they had the entire universe to explore with this new movie they could have made gone 100000000 ways with it...

NaughtyRob 06-02-2013 09:27 AM

I disagree, I loved it.

Except it WAS NOT A REMAKE!
It was a prequel...to introduce the character, and a couple of others....

Just watching it like an entertaining movie, not a fan.

2MuchMark 06-02-2013 11:40 AM

I liked it and want to see it again.

Way to spoil it for those of us who haven't seen it yet!

beerptrol 06-02-2013 11:54 AM

I guess you'll have to take off your Uhura costume and put it away for another day

brassmonkey 06-02-2013 11:56 AM

some people don't like new stuff :2 cents: boring movies where they talk a lot are popular

kane 06-02-2013 01:22 PM

Writers come up with new ideas for movies all the times. Studios, however, don't want to make them because making something new could be a risk where a movie like this comes with built in audience so they know it is going to make a bunch of cash.

duk75 06-02-2013 01:31 PM

I did like it, although the only thing I could not understand is why Spock could talk with the Spock of the future or something like that...

Also, I hated the fact that the Vulcano planet is non existent anymore. And that destroys possibilities like that classic episode of the Amok Time.

Good luck with the pitches.

Even if you sell them, selling/optioning them and getting them made are two different things. The big studios often buy 100 scripts for every one that actually gets made. Getting something on the screen is really difficult if you are going the studio route.

If you go the indie route you have more say in whether it gets to the screen or not, but then you have to go out and find the money to do it which is never easy.

The plot was allegorical - the head of Starfleet (substitute GW Bush or Obama) sending Kirk and the Enterprise to assassinate a 'terrorist' (substitute Khan for Bin Laden or Sadam Hussein) with rather sketchy justification.

The story goes back to the ST:TOS tradition of having the plot mirror modern day politics.

Abbrams did his homework.

For the most part I enjoy'd it. Spare me the awkward tonsil hockey between Spock and Uhura. And the actor who played Khan was no Ricardo Montalban.

sandman! 06-02-2013 04:38 PM

was still a decent movie

Phoenix 06-02-2013 06:49 PM

I am a fan of alternate universe sci fi....but not when it comes to Star Trek.

They should have never gone this route last movie.
They should have gone into how the Klingon War started. Brought Worfs family into it. Set up those bloodlines. They could have even mentioned the Q being on Earth. Then had a whole trilogy of the Klingon wars.
