i kunt a4d a Russia to make a point... :(

seeandsee 05-28-2013 03:51 AM

This should make instant peace over there

wehateporn 05-28-2013 04:11 AM

It's a good move as it helps deter foreign intervention, however it won't put the Western powers off sending in more terrorists. :2 cents:

Now this.....

Airstrikes in S-300 hit range? A very bad idea IMHO.

I'm not an expert on these by any means, clearly they can take out aircraft, but would they also be able to defend against Israeli missiles?

pimpmaster9000 05-28-2013 05:55 AM

look at it this way: they saved the USA a ton of money now there will be no invasion and shit...

bronco67 05-28-2013 06:23 AM

Doesn't this say all we need to know about Russia...as if we didn't know already?

Rochard 05-28-2013 06:59 AM

Seems to me like this war is spilling over into Turkey and Lebanon.... Not to mention shit with Israel. Once you have Hezbollah in Lebanon getting pissy, you know there is gonna be trouble.

The Heron 05-28-2013 07:02 AM

Just trying to make some money, capitalism at work!

EonBlue 05-28-2013 07:24 AM

So let me get this straight. Russian foreigners are intervening to dissuade foreign intervention? :error

I think the big point to take away from their actions is that they're helping a dictator kill his own people. We could also say the same thing about China.

_Richard_ 05-28-2013 07:47 AM

browsing GLP are we ;)

been floating around for few weeks now, more interesting is when they're in operation and manned by russian crews

Oh no, not again... please :) Do you mean "let's stop the dictator and kill the people by ourselves"? Like it already been in Iraq (how many civilians were Killed by Saddam, and how many by the US invaders?) or in Libya, where the freed peaceful people came to the US embassy to say "thanks"? :error

you think it was regular citizens who attacked an undisclosed cia safe house containing the diplomat?

Sly 05-28-2013 07:57 AM

LOL. I'm not sure why so many think escalation by one party will lead to de-escalation by the other. It doesn't. Escalation leads to more escalation. :-)

Two kids on the playground. One hits another. The other, assuming they are not a bitch, hits back. The first, hits again, harder. Round and round we go until at least one of the kids is on the ground with blood shooting out their nose.

Russia is not a bitch. Neither are the "intervening foreigners."

Duno, I just know those there the "freed" ones. Right now in Syria we have a "non-democratic dictator" on one side and Islamic terrorists + Al Qaeda from other side. Who is better?

brassmonkey 05-28-2013 08:32 AM

Do you really think Syria could actually protect those.. Between Israel's special forces whom are already working inside Syria and if it came down to it US special forces.. Those things would be taken out if the need arrived.

Those things are big and they are not going to be easy to hide.. Not to mention they will be tracked from the moment they are shipped. :2 cents:

have to be crewed by russians, and in theory, they'd legally be allowed to shoot down any plane, not syrian, within syrian air space

kinda like how israel is allowed to murder people in international waters, 'cause they're in danger'

nice move russia..

TheMaster 05-28-2013 12:05 PM

Tom_PM 05-28-2013 12:16 PM

Yeah, WTG Russia. Intervening so others don't. Dick move. Good luck with that.

deltav 05-28-2013 12:19 PM

This missile deal was announced a while ago through the usual channels, it's not the sudden development some of you are making it out to be. The only "breaking news" is the Israeli DM basically implying they'll bomb them if the delivery goes through.

IMO the bigger story out of there this week is Hezbollah announcing they're intervening in Syria with all resources at their disposal, now that has some serious clusterfuck potential.

I heard that they need to be set up and that's not so easy.

Think about it: if you are isreal it's a good news that hezbollah's troops are getting killed.

Assad is pretty reliable for israel and he is not a be threat for them, at least less than these djiadists. So if i was isreal, i would do like if i was an ennemy of the hezbollah in syria but i would do my possible to weaken both sides until i would let assad win with a pyrrhic victory. :2 cents:

i thought they had been there for months.. is the public statement of this fact so important?

peculiar

They wont be crewed by Russians.. The article said that the Syrians would have to be trained in Russia before they went operational. They said it would likely be a year before everything was delivered and ready to go.

They've been rumored there for a while - with the unexpectedly increasing # of casualties letting the cat of the bag beforehand - but Nasrallah's statement basically saying they're *publicly* going "all-in" in Syria IMO is telling. Hezbollah is as much a political force as they are a military one. Now all their political capital is being wagered on the gamble that Assad prevails and they're not going to fuck around sending token forces out of loyalty, they're in it to win it.

With Hezbollah directly involved you run a very real chance of the conflict spilling into Lebanon at the very least, and the risk of Iran & Israel getting further drawn in increases too.

The way things are going and all the parties now involved, I just can't see it getting any better before it gets a lot worse. Hopefully I'm wrong on that.

the british western article never said that russians would be crewing the batteries?

shocker.

tell me, why an issue if the batteries won't be operational for over a year?

Seems like the propaganda has now completely failed, at least that's the case in the UK. Here are the most popular comments under today's BBC article
