They influenced a whole lot better bands and artists . Like Yngwe Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani their fan base is other bands and artists more than mainly generic fans.

I won't say they're the best, but they're one of my absolute favorites. They have a sound that I just haven't heard replicated anywhere else. Arguably three of the greatest ever on their respective instruments as well.

I interviewed Rush way back in 1994 at a hotel in Manhattan. Well, Geddy and Alex, Neil was being Neil and had disappeared for the day. LOL

GREAT guys (Canadian so that's to be expected) and really just happy to still be together and making music. This was obviously before Neil's personal tragedies that made him and the band literally disappear for almost a decade. 'Ghost Rider' explains it all.

Geddy Lee's voice is whiny/grating/annoying at times, but Rush features great musicians who write good anthemic ballad songs, although I feel their melodies could be stronger.

I'm not sure that Steve Vai or Satriani were influenced by Rush's brand of prog rock.

Of course I never would have guessed that they were one of Dave Grohl's favorite bands either. Who would have thought that?

Some of the Rush in Rio footage on youtube is just superb. Their performance of La Villa Strangiato there is just excellent.

Short story from me. Last year I was out for dinner on my birthday. On the way back I've got the radio on with some Rush tunes being played, but then they're all like "we're getting ready for the Rush concert." Totally blew my mind. Rush was playing a concert an hour away. Playing a concert on my birthday, but I had absolutely no idea! :(

Rush : Great musicians, a few catchy songs, lots of anthems, true rockers in every sense of the word, and proud Canadians.

That being said though their concerts are getting boring. The Time Machine concert I saw was decent, but the last one was just plain boring. I don't know what it was. They played well, but... but but... it was just so DULL. Maybe it was because I had seen mind-blowing RAMSTEIN a few months earlier and learned to expect much more from concerts since then, but...

neil peart is arguably one of, if not the, best drummers of all time... but to say Rush is the best rock band in history is stretching it a bit.

It's a real shame the famous LeStudio in Morin Heights, Que. where they made eight of their albums (and shot 3 videos) is now abandoned, derelict and falling apart.

I read somewhere that Steven Page, lead singer for Barenaked Ladies now owns the console from LeStudio - and had it installed in his own home studio.

I've seen them perform live 5 times spanning over 30 years and they always rip it live without having a stage show. You want a stage show go to the circus. :1orglaugh
