I got the Intuos2 4x5 for $199. They have larger pads if you need more pad room to do super high detail graphics design, but so far I found the 4 x 5 works flawlessly.

1,024 levels of pressure

Tablet Resolution is 2,450 lpi

Best part is I no longer have any wrist pain whatsoever like I used to get from being on the Net so much. With the pen you get much more natural movement and motion while surfing. The mouse locks your hand into a fixed position. With the pen you get lots better circulation.

PS and they do give you a wireless mouse too, in case you feel like reminiscing every now and then. :1orglaugh

I was looking at that new cordless logitech rechargable optical mouse of doom, but I don't know how I feel about the rechargeable aspect... cordless mice suck down batteries when you're sitting behind the computer doing porn work all day, and I'd hate to have to take breaks to recharge the fucking thing, since you can't just put fresh AAs in it.

wireless mice have lag

WELL. i just got me a logitech mx700. i was very skeptical at first, coming from a razer boomslang 2000. those mice are *amazing*, but i decided i should try something less than 3 years old.

there is no lag on this mouse, period. except, when it comes back from idle, about 2 seconds, but that's with all opticals.

the resolution is not quite like the razer, but still acceptable (i was used to 2000dpi, move the mouse accurately less than an inch across the desktop).

and, the lack of wires is exceptional.

as far as the batteries go, i wouldn't worry about them at all. unlike what interlude says, these DO take normal AA batteries, so in a pinch, you can throw some in. i did for the first few days running it because i kept forgetting to charge the nimh's. if you are really concerned about power, they will accept up to 1700mah batteries, i believe they come with 1300. so, buy yourself some bigger ones. i have gone about 1.5-2days fairly heavy usage on a pair of regular batteries, no problems. and it tells you on the mouse when they run low.

the box says these are good for 6 feet, but i've gotten about 15 without any real problems, but depending on equipment interference, that may differ. the extra buttons are nice, as well.

i'm really glad i didn't scrimp for the mx700.. although i'm sure it's as capable.. but not having to contend with a wire is so much better.

:2 cents:

oh yeah, you do have to remember to put the mouse in the cradle at night, but that's not too hard to remember, since it's always staring at me.

I've got a Logitech myself, if you have a battery remote just get two more rechargable batterys and let them charge while ya sleep..Of get a cheep recharger at Radio Shack and you'll always have fresh ones...

KRL, i've always been curious, are those tablets really that great? i mean, i'll always need the mouse, but was always curious about having the tablet. not really sure what i'd use it for, at least in the near future. their site recommends me the intuos2 6x8. but, they also want $350 for that "toy"... :(

Wireless and optical.

It eats up batteries - but that what rechargeable batteries are made for.

just a basic logitech wired optical.... works great... no lag... no fancy fucking buttons that I don't need.... 2 buttons and a wheel.

Perfect, and cheap.

Despite what you might think - there is absolutely no lag.

I love those fancy buttons! The main thumb button I have programmed for ALT+F4 - It comes in great when you walk into a pop up window ambush. I close windows before they even think about loading. If you're like me and have multiple windows open all the time, it is a dream come true.

The secondary thumb button I have programmed to refresh - That comes in very handy, especially on this board.

:winkwink:
