Why do sites say they are HD, when their videos are not HD?!?
Especially the big production houses... WTF?!? I mean how fucking hard is it to do the correct data rate?!? At the very least 720p = 6 mb/sec and 1080p = 11 mb/sec. And thats still not spec. I have these fucking movies that are like 2k data rate... Are you guys fucking dumb?

High-definition video is video of higher resolution than is standard. While there is no specific meaning for high-definition, generally any video image with more than 480 horizontal lines (North America) or 570 lines (Europe) is considered high-definition. 720 scan lines is generally the minimum even though many systems greatly exceed that.

The whole HD and quality thing is frustrating.
As somebody who shot content, I am usually shocked when I see the inside of a paysite. Most are complete garbage with nothing but crap in there and usually dont have what is advertised. I use to find that there was a direct corelation to their advertising on GFY. Some sites use cms that encode at a certain rate when you upload them and spit them out into different versions...I am uploading with 15K to 25K mpg but some guys are taking 3K to 1.5K wmv and using those and those are being re encoded again.
Most companies just have licences to low grade encode over time they will become more obsolete... Those with masters can push ahead. I just started shooting 1920x1080p and I can say what quality differnce over the 1440x1080i quality is visually better by almost 10x...so by the time you re encode them they still look crisp and clear with all details. Most of the guys are still shooting HDV and some still in SD. To each their own. |
DD according to your definition Hulu nor netflix nor AT&T Uverse is hd either and that simply isnt so....bit rate is irrelevant
while hd video on bluray is mpeg 2 TS codec at 8mbits per sec the same video encoded at 2 mbits per sec in with an H.264 Hi profile will look as good to most people on a 48 inch screen at 25% of the size encode with the new H.265 codec and you can the same quality with 1.2 mbits per sec bits per sec is like comparing cameras by digital zoom Netflix HD for example is 2 m bits per sec they use h.264 encoding and they use the hi profile the rest like the GOP and all that I dont know |

Old programs offering 1280 or 1920 on new vids with a library full of 640 likely would put HD on their tour.

11 Meg's a sec? For Internet use? You're out of your mind. Maybe on a disc you buy at the store but not for download. 11 mb/s is the size of the raw file. You're talking 15 gb's for 35 mins.
