Not sure how a PM or skype convo would make it "more" serious. Anyone can easily stroke you via IM and they'd have no basis or accountability. In fact I would argue that an open discussion on GFY is more in your favor, because then you'll be able to reference this thread anytime someone questions your work and/or professionalism.
