IronMan3 this Sat. in AVX widescreen theatre!

Psyched to see IronMan3 this Sat. night at Cineplex's new AVX theatre - beyond IMAX quality ... reserved/preferred seating.

Should be amazing.

Just got back from IM3. Good flick - not the best of the three, though.

The UltraAVX widescreen looked amazing in 3D - and the soundsystem was killer. :thumbsup

But was disappointed with the theatre seats - not what they advertised. They were barely an upgrade from regular theatre seats...all they did was recline slightly - with no way of locking them in a recline position.

I wouldn't pay the extra premium cost next time for the AVX experience.

It let me down. #1 is still my favorite. #3 is my least favorite. I wouldn't sit through it again.

I watched it. Didn't think it was very good in comparison to the first two. Ok to watch. I thought the final scene with all the suits flying around was just a time wasting "what do we do now to make this exciting and fill up the screen with background lights and noises" cop out as the main characters faught. The end scenes were poorly done, poorly choreographed and visually confusing. Just a bunch of lights darting around. Thought the suits themselves went too far... with the 200 tiny pieces flying around. All i kept thinking was "hmm.. how much of the weight of that piece would be fuel/propulsion/guidence" etc. I thought the first 2 were much better.

Exactly. I was thinking through a lot of the movie that the scenes were just filler scenes because they didn't have a story to tell.

What was the purpose of the little kid in Tennessee? Unless he ends up being one of the Avengers later on, it was a stupid. And the Mandarin being a fraud? WEAK!!! It wasn't even funny. That character had real potential and they blew it.

Did you stay to the end of the credits? WTF was that all about? Lamest Marvel after the credits ending EVER.

I actually said that to myself in the theater in the end ... "oh. they totally ran out of ideas in terms of writing and were struggling"

Yeah... I felt like the story was starting to wander at that point. Basically he just needed a place to park the suit as he investigated?

Yeah, that wasn't a clever twist in the story line.. it was just bizarre and weird and suddenly went from a dark super hero movie to something from Austin Powers. It would have made more sense and been more powerful if the guy was a legit psycho that thought he was in control or something.

At these kinds of movies where fans are there, i always pay attention to whether people get up and leave - because usually there are nuggets at the end. This time, everyone was sitting down through the credits.. i considered it, but then thought "who are you kidding? the movie sucked, do you think their best work came after the credits?" - and just left.

We thought the same...and just left.

I couldn't help wondering through the whole movie - where the hell are his Avenger buddies? Why aren't they helping out?

Of course, that would've make it another Avenger movie.

And I agree about the kid in Tennessee plot meander. Seemed pointless and ridiculous.

Looks like a SICK fllick y'all!

I think that changing the villain so to not offend the movie makers Chinese financiers was a bad idea.

It's about the same as what AMC is calling in some of their theaters ETX, and what Regal calls RPX. Basically it's just a higher end digital projector than used on their standard screens, with a slightly better sound setup. The screen size is usually slightly larger than regular screen, but nothing that would blow your mind.

Basically, you've got the original film IMAX theaters which are the best. Then you've got the digital IMAX theaters that have been installed in some multiplexes which, while not having as giant a screen, do offer better digital projection than standard digital projection, and then I'd put AVX/ETX/RPX right below that. Digital IMAX gets at least a slight edge over it because the IMAX corporation has done some digital remastering on the film to take advantage of those projectors and the larger scale, whereas AVX/ETX/RPX uses the same standard digital movie file that would show on another screen. I find that AVX/ETX/RPX is basically the theater's way of saying "this is our best screen in the multiplex" and using that to justify charging a couple extra bucks.

That said, since digital projection can be a little spotty at times depending on the theater and configuration, I will say that I've never had a bad experience at AVX/ETX/RPX the way I have at some regular digital showings. It's not quite as good as digital IMAX, and doesn't hold a candle to traditional IMAX. It's worth trying at least once, in my opinion, if it's offered at a theater you normally go to - I wouldn't drive miles out of my way to get to one because I feel that would be a letdown, but if it was at someplace I was already headed to I'd take that as the best (standard) option for a non-IMAX film.

I think Ironman 3 rocked... The kid was cute; I never gave much thought to where the other Avengers were - Perhaps they were on vacation.

bronco67 05-05-2013 08:51 AM

I loved what they did with the Mandarin. Great twist, once they built this guy up so much. I laughed and thought it was a great revelation -- and I'm glad the trailer didn't ruin it for me.

I think maybe they couldn't do too much since the release of Iron Man 3 was the end of RDJ's contract. While they credits did say "Tony Stark will return"... RDJ doesn't have a contract to play Iron Man or be in the Avengers again... yet. I'm sure with the $$$ this made over the weekend, though, that will probably change. RDJ *IS* Tony Stark - they can't just switch out actors like it was Spider Man.

I agree with Bronco67 - I actually liked the twist on The Mandarin. I figured he was a puppet for Killian the whole time. I didn't see the switch-eroo coming with Maya, though. I feel a little silly for not seeing that one coming.
