Michael Douglas and Matt Damon taking a bubble bath together
In a Liberace biopic for HBO. We live in interesting times.
|
Icky. But I'm still gonna watch it. ;-)
|
God i HATED the Hemingway and Gellhorn biopic. HBO is slipping imho.
|
looks good, i don't know about the choice of actors.
|
It takes someone real balls to play that role. Props.
|
why on earth would they cast damon for that role? wow. the trailer looks pretty silly but i might have watched it, but not with damon.
looks like just some fag hollywood movie exec's damon fantasy. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh |
Years ago I rented Liberace's Palm Springs house for a week. When the realtor was walking us through I asked if the water had been changed since he was last in it. My g/f was speechless, the realtor looked offended, I thought it was pretty funny.

Ever since broke back mountain, all the *hetero* actors have been climbing over dicks to get a role playing a gay guy. Something smells cheesy.....not fishy...

I'm looking forward to seeing this.
When I was young I hated any musicians who didn't play heavy rock/metal. Because of that I didn't have any idea how good Liberace was as a musician and entertainer. He was THE headliner at The Riviera here in Las Vegas when it opened in 1955 becoming the highest paid entertainer in the world at $50.000 a week (which was unheard of in 1955) Since I saw this movie was coming out and set here in Vegas I started looking up stuff about him and it's very cool. On YouTube for instance is him on the Oprah Winfrey show in Dec. 1986 playing Christmas music (he was the guest for the whole hour). He was dying at the time of AIDS but the public didn't know it. He looks frail and probably felt HORRIBLE but he was super gracious and played Christmas songs beautifully and took questions from Oprah and the audience. He died 2 months later...so he was REALLY hurting when he did that show. Not to mention that at the same time he was performing a series of shows in New York. Anyway, it's interesting to see all the things he did. And sad if you look up his home here in Vegas today on YouTube. It's in shambles. :( |
Michael Douglas looks like a good choice for that character.
Alternately, check out John Candy as Orson Welles, and Dave Thomas as Liberace on SCTV from years ago. Classic stuff. |

My only question is how long I can take Douglas mimicking Liberace's voice. |
Quote:
i just checked imdb, he's already shot 6 films in 2013. |
Whats so interesting about the times we live in that has to do with this movie.
|
Looks very interesting... Definitely want to see that.
|
My mom still won't accept the fact that Liber was gay.
I remember whenever he'd go on and on about his jewels and his riches and the opulence of his house etc she would get all giddy over it. He was the only person in the world who could brag at that level and none of it come off as bragging. I believe she's going to love this film. |
i'm looking forward to seeing this movie

i think the only afleck flick i get a kick out of is dazed and confused, prolly because i think he plays himself in that one! :1orglaugh:1orglaugh |
I wonder how that will impact sales for something like the Bourne series? For example, Micheal Jackson had that album that was doing fairly well until the video was released where he stripped his shirt off to reveal a skeleton like body though intended to be done in a powerful/sensual way and album sales then plummeted.

As far as the times we live in, I also find it interesting that part of the marketing of the film is the story they are telling that the concept was rejected for theater release because they were told it was 'too gay'. Using claimed homophobia to publicize because they know that will get people to watch partially out of curiosity and partially out of protest is indeed a sign of the times to me and as a non-straight person interesting to watch. |

damon plays scott thorson
Thorson met Liberace in 1976, when he was 16, through his friendship with Hollywood film producer Ray Arnett. When Thorson was 16, Liberace hired him to act as his personal friend and companion, a position that allegedly included a five-year romantic relationship with lavish gifts, travel, and Liberace's promises that he would adopt and care for Thorson. Liberace also incorporated Thorson into his Las Vegas stage performances (e.g., Thorson drove Liberace's Rolls-Royce onstage,[4] and was a dancer[5]). According to Thorson, their committed relationship ended because of Liberace's sexual promiscuity and Thorson's drug addiction, brought on by Liberace's hiring a plastic surgeon to restructure Thorson's face to resemble a young Liberace, and the doctor's prescribing a cocktail of highly addictive drugs, including cocaine, quaaludes, Biphetamine, and demerol post-surgery. Thorson also later suffered from Hepatitis C.[4][6] In 1982, Thorson filed a $113 million lawsuit against Liberace,[7] the most famous part of which was a palimony suit. In 1986, Thorson and Liberace agreed to settle out of court for $95,000, two cars, and two pet dogs. He visited and reconciled with Liberace shortly before the entertainer's death in 1987.[4] A year later, Thorson published a book about their relationship, Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace |
In 1989, Thorson emerged as a pivotal witness in the prosecution of gangster Eddie Nash in the 1981 quadruple murders of the Wonderland Gang. For his testimony, he was placed in the federal witness protection program. In 1990, he was shot five times when drug dealers broke into his hotel room in Jacksonville, Florida.[3]
