What would you do?

We're seriously down to flipping a coin on this.

My wife and I decided to save up and open a resale shop and move somewhere on the gulf coast of Florida.
I was going to continue to work as she ran the shop.

Well She recently got laid off at work so that kills the saving part.

I have a job offer that pays about $4.00 more on the hour in Florida than here.

We can't decide if we should just stick around and her find a job here to save the money, or go on down and me take the better paying job and she find a job there to continue to save.

Decisions decisions....:(

Don't ever care about what people tell you. Discuss with your wife. :1orglaugh

One question: why are you waiting to save up money so that you can open up a retail shop? Start now. Do it online. EBay, Amazon, Craigslist, your own website, etc. etc. I see really no point in saving up money that you will dump immediately into rent, when you can already start now, essentially rent free.

:thumbsup What he said!.. Sounds like a no brainer

Are you opening a shop to sell things or is it going to be like the 1000s of antique shops and book shops that get opened by people who have no real interest in selling they just want somewhere to store all the second hand clutter they like collecting?

keysync 04-28-2013 03:11 PM

We're wanting to open a shop to sell the crap we already buy and sell on the net.
My eventual plan is to convert it to a pawn shop.

Combo of job lay off and better paying job out there kinda makes it a bit easier to say fuck it let's go. If the end goal is going there eventually I'd probably take the $4 raise and have her look out there for a gig assuming your new offer is solid. :2 cents:

It's easy enough to weed out the trolls here.

And I'm not a member of any other forum.
And I fucking hate facebook. So, this is where I test my thoughts from time to time. :thumbsup

I'm happy to learn something from anyone. Different people have different perspectives and sometimes I just get in a mental rut.
So hearing others ideas, relevant or not, it does help me see all the way around a problem instead of my narrow view.

question: cost of living where you are compared to FL

L-Pink 04-28-2013 04:31 PM

Getting up and moving is great, I've done it many times. I've even put all my household stuff in storage, packed some clothes and my dog and just hit the road with no destination in mind.

Go for it. The worse that can happen is you move again.

agreed, move there and your up $4/hour as she has no job here now, assuming your job offer is solid and cost of living is comparable or cheaper in florida. :2 cents:

Very similar.

And the job is with a Huge International company.
I would guess it's pretty solid.
