Checkout this Kickstarter project...

This is a project I'm involved with.

Only 5 days left to back it :thumbsup

If you know any retailers that want to order the product, let me know. We are putting together the referral system soon, and should have product in hand in August.
We can also make branded units with pretty much any logo.

Cheaper quality versions have been around.. we currently sell a version 2 on amazon and costco but none that are for Smart Phones - The generator is powerful enough to charge smarthphones.

Don't want to spoil your work or something, but you just need to produce USB-out voltage to charge smartphone batteries (talking about urgent charge), so i already saw numerous solutions similar to this one. But yours looks cool and i think it will go nice with sales...

candyflip 04-21-2013 05:08 AM

Awesome job finding 2,800+ suckers and over $100k on Kickstarter. That is the actual feat that deserves congratulations.

I have one of the ones posted above, I got it for $3 and it charges my iPhone 5.

lonerunner 04-21-2013 07:23 AM

Very nice job, it's good for those who often forgot to charge phone when they go on trip. Just one question, how long you need to wind it to recharge battery completely?

bronco67 04-21-2013 07:26 AM

I guess its good to have if you're traveling and have bags and stuff, but I don't know who would carry that thing around in addition to their phone.

There are many solutions similar, and definitely not a game changer, but it is a popular item :)

Can someone 'splain me how diz sheet works. So you find a bunch of suckers willin' to send you money, right. Then you get the monies and start "production", right. After paying out executive officers, design team and marketing you balance becomes zero and you go ask for more? Right? If so Im in wrong fucking business looking for suckers to pay mulla for something available for free.

They're not donating, so much as they're buying and funding the manufacturing. Well, that was how things started at Kickstarter. Now it's become a marketplace for lots of Chinese made crap. You can still find some innovative things, but you really have to go looking. I've gotten a few camera type products that I don't think anyone else was making at the time, so I couldn't have gotten them some place else.

And there's no hate here, at least not from me. Big props to anyone able to sell a product for $45 that RETAILS elsewhere for $3.

Huh?

Paying for executives?
the way kickstarter works, you come up with a product and instead of building and spending a bunch of money getting the product AND THEN trying to broadcast out to the public, you create a prototype, and ask people if they like the product. If they like it, then they back your project by giving money. You can't go back and ask for more once the project is over. You also get NO money if you do not reach your goal.
Once you get the money from kickstarter, then you go and produce the product, hence the crowd fund helps you kickstart your business.

I meant paying out during production process. You know operating costs and shit.

What do you give the people that funded your project?

The funders receive rewards for projects...

depending on the level that they fund - they can just donate money if they feel it is a good product that they would want to see make it to market.

$X amount - gets you the product at say half the retail and launch edition

$Y amount - You get the product + maybe the name of the backer on the website

so and so forth. You get the audience involved by letting them choose colors

then you can set stretch goals so if you reach x amount you'll throw in something else.

All of it is spelled out here though

Wow congratulations on your kickstarter. I have a startup and want to do a kickstarter but dont have my act together yet, and you are knocking yours out of the park! Who cares about "haters", you're really doing it.

I think thats a great item to be sold in sporting goods stores and I could definitely see that on Skymall and maybe even QVC. I think its great gift for someone who goes fishing or camping.

If you had a plug attached to it so you can plug it into the wall and have the option of charging it by electricity or hand held, then it would sell really well.
But if its only a crank then I dont remember the last time I was out of power more than 30 minutes.

Thank you for the praise.

I don't see it mentioned, all it talks about is the hand crank charge. The ability to plug into a wall is a BIG feature.
It should be easier to understand so a non techo dummy like me will want to buy it.

And I meant a wall charger prong (whatever its called) like this

It's explained on the kickstarter page under the headings...

How Does It Work?

and Easy To use

"To operate the SOSCharger, simply plug your device into the standard USB power port and turn the power switch on. The SOSCharger's internal battery can be recharged simply by turning the handle, while simultaneously acting as a traditional power pack. Just plug it in to any A/C adapter with USB output to keep it topped off."

DBS.US 04-22-2013 08:59 PM

I like it.:thumbsup but.... I really think the blue crank handle should be KickStarter Green:) People see green and think they are helping saving the world.:2 cents:

Mike Dutch 04-22-2013 09:53 PM

nice, congrats! 5 times the pledge!

I love kickstarter, even if some products are out there I support it if I like it more than the existing products out there. Fuck the haters.

Those guys should end up filthy rich. You need to sell that product with fear. Every disaster and power outage kit should have one of those in it. Talk to the companies that assemble those earthquake bags and emergency, natural disaster type bags. The places to sell that device are just unlimited. Nice job.
