I see with thumblogger going down today, a lot of people are still utilizing these services.

If you were to use one of these. What would you like to see in it.

A. Plugins
B. Themes

etc?

Do you really care THAT much about the design or functionalities? Or is it just for link building purposes.

I am working on getting one of these going soon and would like to see what peoples opinions are of them. I have done a search for other ones and I see besides easysites, most that I find links to posted on other forums and such are all dead sites.

I would like to see what people want, so I can try to get everything put in early.

What if a theme you can choose is a wordpress whitelabel type theme where you can put in your webcam/dating affiliate info for webcams/dating sites that might want to participate in an offer like this?

pornblogspace has the free hosted blog platform covered. They have about 6-7 different domains for you to blog on. I don't think just releasing one domain for public use is going to do anything for you.

You are going to have to build a huge network to draw in webmasters and bloggers to use your service.

Mike, did you start a self hosted network or get screwed on this? Sorry if so. Tough hit for those that had 1000's of sites.

As far as free hosts are concerned for those looking to create one I'd say they are much harder to start than most would think I bet.

The only reason people used Twans is because of age and reputation. It just worked well and was always around.

If I am not mistaken, they started with just one site and built it up. Its not hard to offer multiple domains to choose from. Its also Wordpress. So its easy to duplicate. I will work on adding multiple domains now. But they literally have 6-7 different programs to use. Not one program with multiple domains (I think). But this is some good info.

Yes, it's one program with many domains. In some ways their service is better than Twan's but in other ways they need to grow. They still have no directory submission to get you the initial boost of link juice you need when launching a new blog.

So if you can login in once place. Have multiple domains to be able to create subdomains on each domain. Is having these domains on multiple IP address's mean anything?

yes, but you need directories that have authority or some type of sites you can submit to that have heavier link juice. Just setting up free hosted blogs on multiple domains with different IP address's is not enough.

Many people over the last 3 years or so have been moving away from Twan's platform to other free hosts or to their own domains.

What I'm trying to say is if you build something like this it better be better than what Twan had and be better run because his service has become crap compared to what it was 5-6 years ago.

Well. People took a risk using his platform knowing that it could be gone any day. I am surprised it lasted as long as it did. Without him having cared for it in years. What if I can offer hosting your own domain as well as using a subdomain.

Without some sort of submitter there is no need. There are already platforms in place that can replace thumblogger. Kaktusan's pornblogspace and his network are already generating more traffic than twans network. If you don't have high ranking directories or blogs that are willing to use to give 1st day link juice to new blogs don't even worry about it.

Corection, pornblogspace.com doesn't have close to the traffic thumblogger.com does according to quantcast. Barely 10%.

Did you add up all the domains as compared to Twan's 3 domains? I think you will see it is close. Considering Twan had 20 directories to help his 3 domains and Kaktusan has only 1.

Plus consider how Twan had his 3 blog hosts set up. He seems to think because he had them made himself instead of using WPMU that it was better. It's obviously not when you set up post to to rotate oldest to newest and they break the url code of each post every time you do it.

Maybe I should not have said more but it is closer to half and in and industry that is shrinking in blog traffic the fact that his platform is growing is defiantly a positive.

That stupid 203 server error got me to stop using it, but they were still good for backlinks. :Oh crap

ya, towards the end I think most people only used it because Twan would let you dump one blog a day on his directories as long as you used his free host. It was nice fast traffic but I couldn't see building anything significant there because of the way it was set up and his lack of interaction with his users.

Many times I sent him a PM and never got a reply. There were also many times when he would only give me 5-10 links back from the directories after I submitted to all 20.

In fact, people should build their network, or go with the guys that have been at least 3-4 years in this. But still, there is no guarantee, just check thumblogger...

And tumblr deletes your blog if you want to make money.

I used to run a free blog host, what a waste of time, nigh on impossible to monetise and I spent more time dealing with layers emails than anything else. I was glad to get rid of it.

For plugins, I would recommend using CyberSEO and HeadSpace for a feed aggregator and SEO respectively. They offer far more versatility than the more commonly used FeedWordpress and All-In-One-SEO combo.
