50" 4K TV for 1.499USD

damn good price!

for the people who don't know whats 4K:
4K has twice the horizontal and vertical resolution of the 1080p HDTV format, with four times as many pixels overall

Sure beats the other sets I've seen running 10k or more. Don't really see the point right now since there's not really any sources that take advantage of it other than using it as a PC monitor. That name brand sure doesn't inspire confidence though.

I don't think 2160p is actually 4k

All the sets I have seen advertised as 4k are 3840 x 2160p.

That's great and all, but is anybody broadcasting in that resolution or do they just stretch out the 1080p?

DumpManager 04-16-2013 07:50 PM

That is crazy! I can't believe that amazing price.

I don't know if there is any 4K content out there yet myself..

PS4 will support 4K Videos/Pictures but not 4K games
Might be a great combo for that fancy new TV

icymelon 04-16-2013 09:44 PM

720p 1 million pixels
1080p 2 million pixels
2160p 4 million pixels = 4k

2MuchMark 04-16-2013 11:01 PM

Yeah, um, No.....

There's no content for 4k yet. Nothing on Satellite, nothing on cable. Bluray is only 1024 lines. Next it's still a non-standard format. Plus people just went crazy buying 3D TV's. If you watch a 4K TV with standard HD content you will be seeing an up-coversion which is basically zoomed images & pixel doubling. Yuck. Give it a few years...

Sky in the UK only broadcast 1080i so unless you're watching Blu-ray all the time you might as well just have a 720p TV

bronco67 04-17-2013 04:43 AM

I'd rather have a 65 inch 1080p set.

...and the majority of TV broadcasts don't even support 1080p, except PBS and a few others. Even Blu rays are only 1080p. Why adopt so early?

Lykos 04-17-2013 05:48 AM

That's a good deal

candyflip 04-17-2013 05:54 AM

Would make for a nice monitor for your RED camera and a few others, but right now that's not a lot of people.

Sony is supposedly going to launch a 4K video source sometime after the PS4 comes out, and they have said that movies would be expected to be 100GB+ each.. OUCH!

yes, you are right, sorry

MrMaxwell 04-18-2013 06:09 PM

I always saw blocks and pixelation like shit in all "1080p" satellite and cable pictures on HD televisions before I knew a little about them.. then I found out it's because cable and satellite shit is compressed straight to hell.
