Franck, what's the food in Holland that is made from sheeps stomach? It's like a fried ball shaped meat croquette. Can't remember the name.

That would be haggis in Scotland.

EddyTheDog 04-15-2013 02:28 PM

Is that Smoked Salmon or Gradvalax(?sp)?

I love it either way - With a nice honey mustard dressing...

CaptainHowdy 04-15-2013 02:31 PM

Looks really inviting ...

:1orglaugh nope, I know haggis, it wasn't that. The girl at the bar said it was made from sheep. I'll try and find out.

Hmm I can't find it either, maybe she was just trying to get rid of some leftovers and thought 2 drunk Brits would eat anything :1orglaugh

It was like Falafel or a Croquette, but it was meat inside.

Si 04-15-2013 02:44 PM

Found it! (I think) Bitterballen?

Was it like a sausage shape - It could have been frikandel?

I found it, http://www.coquinaria.nl/english/rec...ock/Kroket.htm

The recipe sounds very similar to what I can remember.

Si 04-15-2013 02:48 PM

From that link in my last post:

The name bitterbal, literally bitter ball, does not indicate that its taste is bitter, but that they were originally meant to be served with a bittertje (a small glass of Dutch jenever, not quite the same as gin).

I had them with Jenever, so I would guess that confirms it :)

Is that cottage cheese and salmon? Add a few capers and a few thinly sliced fresh onion rigns ---> perfection
