You can't beat Spring Skiing

I've skied in t-shirt before, but these conditions are just frikken crazy - absolute heaven

A tonne of snow, nobody on the slopes, 17oC at 3000 metres and 425km of slopes to ski :upsidedow:upsidedow:pimp

Taken today - you really ski for an hour and maybe meet 3 people during that time. Crazy!. Global warming, bring it on :thumbsup

Fair play to you brotha!! Where were you anyway?
I haven't been fortunate enough to go this year, but I'll see if I get away twice next season to make up for it! 8)))

at la plagne, paradiski (wiki entry here)

Got a chalet here over 18 yrs ago in one of the nicest "working/farming" villages (not concrete carbuncles) way before this resort became absolutely massive. Walk out the door, meet the cows, and on the ski lift. Chalet is now worth 1000x what we paid for it for sure, but we'll never sell it - this resort is going nowhere since la plagne and les arcs were linked (to make the paradiski area) and so the chalet is remaining in the family forever as the kids love the skiiing as much as we do.

Never skied in these conditions though and probably never will again, so maxing it out big time :thumbsup one week of frikken heaven :pimp

I agree. Just came back from 10 days of skiing.

Forest 04-14-2013 02:54 PM

hate spring skiing

give me 10f and dumping 2 inches an hour with a foot or better of pow over a sunny warm day anytime

Just skied a foot of pow last week in Utah

John-ACWM 04-15-2013 03:15 AM

Never managed that in France, but being first down the mountain after a big dump overnight is one of lifes greatest pleasures. First tracks club Breakfast at a restaurant as the sun comes up over the mountain, then first run down chasing the pistebashers. Awesome.

I skied La Plagne at the end of January this year and it was the best snow I've ever skied, was quite a nice resort but the runs made it awesome, a lot of good skiing there!

Yup, we're more over in the Montchavin village than in La Plagne, but it's all the same skiable domain. We're doing the whole week on the glacier - 12500 feet doing excellent black runs really takes it out of you. Off piste is far too dangerous so not bothering.

But, yeah great runs and I do agree hitting the powder on the first trails is just awesome. But so is this temperature!

looks pretty amazing.

Poppy 04-15-2013 10:35 AM

Wow, super envious. Kind of eerie, like you are on your own planet!

Choopa Phil 04-15-2013 10:38 AM

Looks like a skiers heaven for sure. Take FULL Advantage of that and take more pics! Absolutely beautiful out there.

A better panorama from this morning, with the Mont Blanc about 3/4 to the right

Just discovered the panorama thing on the iphone and damn it's good. Follow the arrow while panning keeping it centered on the line. Easiest thing ever! :thumbsup

Damn! Very jealous. Looks amazing

lucas131 04-17-2013 08:57 AM

cool man, you are like 40kms from me now :) enjoy, it is a total great here last days! :thumbsup btw, are you renting your chalet? any deals for me? :winkwink:

borked 04-17-2013 09:18 AM

Sorry lucas, we never rent it out. Just my immediate family and the in-laws use it whenever we're not there. We use it quite a lot in Summer too as the mountain is a totally different place - great fun taking the lifts up to the glacier with the bikes and doing 2000m drop back the chalet!!

Beat my speed record today - 98km/h. Tomorrow, I'm going for 100 :upsidedow

lucas131 04-17-2013 09:52 AM

yeah i understand that, even if you bought it for 1000x less price that its now standart all around this places :winkwink: maybe we can do some bike in summer, as i am planning to stay here in chamonix again from june to november :winkwink: vive la france and do your 100 safe tomorrow! :)

We'll be up again in August if you want to hit up. Family biking though isnt like the ski cos theres no bloody bike school to dump the kids into while you hit the mountain with the wife grrrr

Ever screwed in a telecabine? So few people here, we christened the glacier telecabines (though sure we weren't the first!)

Real real shame. It is my alltime favourite passtime. Ok i'm a very good skier now and nothing proves too difficult for me now, but I remember my first few times as if they were yeaterday. The wife also since I bust her nose when I hit her out of control!

I'll be doing this till I physically can't ski. Maybe not at 100kmh but I see pensioners skiing cool all the time. I'll be one one day and will have as much pleasure whatching my kids at that time. And their kids.

You can't beat the views. Just breathtaking.

Sorry for speeeeling errors but I'm on the phone
