I doubt anyone would want to build an illegal application to program satellite TV cards.

Basically he wanted someone to build a software application that would interact with an illegal Satellite Card Writer.

The only thing you have to go on is the source code for the CHIP inside the Writer.

Why would you want to write software that already exists? Extreme HU, quite a few others.. Unless you're talking about some other application.

The only thing to go on was the source code from some atmel chip in the hardware unit.

I guess this was going to be his claim to fame!
