A useful data point... my stats tell me that most of my users browse 800x600 resolution, which would mean that they're probably on 15"-17" monitors.

I'm no pro but I'm pretty sure you could find a script to find out what your users are using.

To give you a example ,we are coediting a online Magazine. I asked four of my yahoo chat buddies to take a look at it . They were all on dialup three at 56k and one at 28k. Thats why my motto simple and fast to load:)
