2257 Requirements for Non-Exclusive content

If I have non-exclusive rights to show scenes ripped from DVDs on my site, for the compliance statement at the beginning of the video can I just put info of that particular studio's custodian of records on my site or do I have to call the studio that produced the particular DVD and have them send me a digital copy of their 2257 info?

Consult with a Lawyer about this.

But if you read the CFR you will see it addresses your question -- if you compile the production you are a (secondary?) producer that would require the full §2257 documentation that the Primary Producer (of the DVD) should be able to provide you with.

Not legal advice, offered in topical conversation only -- Ask a licensed lawyer for specific advice.

I agree with what Barry said above...but, if you received non exclusive rights
from wherever you got the DVDs to rip the content from...THEY should know that secondary producers should provide the appropriate 2257 to you, the secondary producer.

No different than if you buy content from me, that I need to provide you with it.
If I just gave you the FTP and let you d/l the content once you pay me, and you have zero 2257 from me, that's no different than you going and paying a porn company for their DVDs and ripping them...in either case you wouldn't have 2257 docs...

As a secondary producer, pain in the ass as it is...since June 2005, you should have those documents.
:2 cents:

Oh boy, the one I got the non-exclusive rights from is just telling me that 'I can find the 2257 info on the dvd cover'. Wth...
