Kansas couple: Indoor gardening prompted pot raid
Targeted because of a retail purchase of gardening supplies?
LEAWOOD, Kan. (AP) ? Two former CIA employees whose Kansas home was fruitlessly searched for marijuana during a two-state drug sweep claim they were illegally targeted, possibly because they had bought indoor growing supplies to raise vegetables. But the Hartes' attorney, Cheryl Pilate, said she suspects the couple's 1,825-square-foot split level was targeted because they had bought hydroponic equipment to grow a small number of tomatoes and squash plants in their basement. "With little or no other evidence of any illegal activity, law enforcement officers make the assumption that shoppers at the store are potential marijuana growers, even though the stores are most commonly frequented by backyard gardeners who grow organically or start seedlings indoors," the couple's lawsuit says. http://news.yahoo.com/kansas-couple-...182449463.html . |

Going to be expensive tomatoes.

Wonder if they followed found them from credit card records or watched everyone coming and going at the store. The couple should have a solid legal case anyway, that doesn't sound like enough evidence to break down doors.

There are Hydroponic stores everywhere. No less than 5 here where I live, here in NY.
The one that I stop into from time to time only takes cash for this reason. |

Makes you wonder how many times this happens but the police plant something to cover their asses.

My guess is they were selling their tomatos on silk road for bitcoin, hence the raid.

Thats smart to grow veggies in the basement. Dont have to worry about pests.
