New Ice Age coming I read

Just watched some youtube based scientific stuff from Russia, they say gulf stream is gone,
be ready for a new ice age in 3 years, the ice will come down to Turkey.

So, where are you going to run? Got any plan?
Can you do anything else then board posting to survive?

Dirty Dane 03-23-2013 11:41 AM

Looking forward to it. I watched the other movies.

dyna mo 03-23-2013 11:44 AM

me thinks it takes a tad longer than 3 years for an earth "age" change.

EonBlue 03-23-2013 11:55 AM

Actually, we are technically still in an ice age. We are just in an interglacial period. Interglacials average around 12,000 years in length and the one we are in has so far lasted 11,400 years. So yes, we are soon due for the next glaciation.

Don't worry global warming will put a stop to that.

dyna mo 03-23-2013 12:04 PM

oops, i stand corrected, learned something new:

The latest evidence suggests that the Younger Dryas mini ice age took less than 3 years to be in full force in Europe, possibly just a few months to go from no signs to full-on "Big Freeze". The new evidence comes in the form of more detailed analysis of ever-thinner slivers of glacial ice, suggesting that severe sudden cold caused the lakes of Europe to go dead in a matter of months. The evidence now suggests that melting ice slowed the gulf stream, and resulted in near-instantaneous climate change in the opposite direction - so warmer years directly contributed to much colder years immediately thereafter, which in turn lead to (among other things) the decline of the clovis culture in North America.

It's been a theory for quite some time and it's based on scientific fact.. It's nothing new.

The basis of the theory is the way the Earth keeps it's current climate is due to the currents of the oceans. The Gulf stream is just one of these ocean current that cools/warms our planet.

Essentially it's just a big conveyor belt that moves water around the oceans on our planet. The cold water from the arctics drops down deep in the ocean travels toward the equator and the warmer water stays at the surface and eventually circulates back to the arctics, where the whole process starts over again.

The basic idea is that if the ice caps all melt, it will stop this natural conveyor system which will stop the water from circulating and cause the oceans to get very cold spurring a other ice age. (that's the theory part)

Essentially global warming would create global cooling, if this theory plays out.

pretty cool then

Sounds 100000 times more legit than Mayan 2012 calendar end of the world yet it gets/got 100000 times less attention. :upsidedow

ZeroHero 03-23-2013 08:54 PM

as i read and talk around with the proffesionals there will be kind of a little ice age soon , but nothing serious for us , just something new :winkwink:

I see a lot of this on the Discovery Channel etc. They also say the continents will shift to make one large one etc. But none of this is going to happen in our lifetime.

Long, sweaty summers prompt talk of global warming.

Long, cold winters with mucho snow prompt talk of ice age.

(yawn)
