Guess what? I'll be an University Professor...

... with a twist.

Since April 22 I'll be a design professor for my college, only that classes are for.... youth detention center. Nothing dangerous and really happy and looking forward to it, but damn, this is something I would never though I'd be doing.

Also, I don't think it will be an easy task and accordingly, I'll get a good pay for only 4 hours a week.

Anyway, I'll have some (really short) training before I start, if someone has worked in detention centers, any tips will be appreciated

Congrats man. I am sure it will be a challenge to tech those youngsters. But probably also very rewarding. Be a solid role model for those kids, they probably need it.

I myself recently started as a voulenteer fireman, not for the money or anything, but to get out and away from the computer. So far it's been awesome, but I have to go to a school for two weeks lol. That'll be fun.

Anyhow, what kind of design?

Just basic concepts to provide them with some tools to be productive or have a profession, really not very in-depth. I'm currently helping at college with "Design Theory" but that is really complex for the level I expect these kids to have. I'm creating the contents right now, but guess I'll start with "how to open Photoshop and Illustrator" :1orglaugh and some basic theory , like color psychology, shapes, composition and such.

Quite honestly, I have no clue what I will do and I'll probably develop the contents as soon as I know these kids. Either way, I have some pretty long experience teaching poor kids, just not with criminal records. As we're at it, these kids aren't really criminals, mostly minor charges and felonies, as well as kids taken out from the street for their own protection, ie kids without parents or with parents who made them work. Only males, not girls.

For what I know, the real challenge is to make them interested in the subject and make the classes fun and something they want to really do (it's no obligation for them)

Sounds like good work you are doing, Harvey! :thumbsup

If you find some good and motivated students, train one really well in photo editing and I may have some contract work for them. :2 cents:

It's my 3rd language as a matter of fact, but you always learn something, after BFT3K laugh I found out that sometimes words starting with a vowel will use "a" instead of "an".

Not my fault English is an illogical language! :1orglaugh

Now really, I appreciate the opportunity to learn something new and really don't care if people thinks I'm an ignorant, which I am about many, many, many things
