4 months clean...

Smoke free for 4 months - I'm vaping 10mls a day, but that's still better than 40 cigs a day.

My sense of taste and smell is amazing - I really should have taken more showers than I did - Missing a day and having a good wash instead is not as effective as you would think :Oh crap.

Weight is a big issue though - I am sure I have not eaten any more but I am swelling up by the day...

Dirty F 03-18-2013 06:33 PM

You are saying you are a fat smelly fucker?

baddog 03-18-2013 06:35 PM

Congrats; weight gain can happen from simple things like substituting the fags with mints or gum. It is an oral fixation thing, be aware of it and it doesn't have to be an issue.

MaDalton 03-18-2013 06:35 PM

I gave up smoking cold turkey and putting on weight simply comes from putting other stuff in your mouth...

Again, that might be overstating it. 'Some caution is required' is a term I would prefer...

The more cigarettes that a person smoked per day, the more weight he or she is likely to gain after quitting. Someone who quit smoking two packs per day may expect to gain more than someone who quit smoking only one pack per day.

Please note that these numbers are only averages. You may be above average or below average. Half the people who quit smoking gain less than the average 4-10 pounds. And, about one out of ten ex-smokers gains as much as 25-30 pounds.

Most weight tends to be gained in the first six months. Then, after six months many people start to lose the weight they gained as they adjust to being an ex-smoker.

Congratulations on quitting btw :)

I thought the oral fixation thing was covered by the Vaping - Also I thought eating lots of fruit would help as well as fill in what I had been missing before with vitamins - More research though tells me that my sugar intake (from the fruit) has increased massively - I think that is the issue.

Definitely the fruit. Try carrots instead.

Good work, now try for 4 years. You might slip up here and there but that's par for the course.

Mutt 03-18-2013 07:03 PM

why do people assume that weight gain after quitting smoking is solely caused by eating/drinking more? maybe smoking cessation results in a slower metabolism?

you haven't googled to find out more info?

CYF 03-18-2013 07:11 PM

10ML a day sounds like a lot, what strength are you on?

I quit 4 months ago too, and I started at 20mg strength and I'm down to 12mg strength now. Been vaping 2-3ml a day.

That's an interesting point - My step father has this idea that if he has a single cig he has failed and I think that had made it harder for him.

I was thinking about that because nicotine is a stimulant - However, I have been vaping so I still get the nicotine.

There might be other chemicals in cigs that increase metabolism - I will look and see what 'The Google' tells me :).

I started on 24 and now I am on 12 or 18, I really felt the difference so I use the 18 after meals etc.

If you don't mind me asking how has the weight thing gone for you?

a pack of ciggys burns like 400 calories I've heard, so 2 packs... 800 calories

I've gained probably 6-8lbs over the last 4 months. I've been pretty damn lazy this winter though, looking forward to buying a bike and getting some exercise when the snow melts here.

Spunky 03-18-2013 08:31 PM

It's a start ,you can do it

discounts.xxx 03-18-2013 08:50 PM

Yup, fruit contains shitloads of sugar. Basically fruit is bad for you :)

I am getting my tongue pierced on wednesday to curb my oral fixation as i have a insane one and i still smoke but my fixation is well hehe for other things lol but perhaps this will curb two temptations at one time. might be a thought to consider and it increases sexual pleasure so i have heard will be finding out soon enough lol btw congrats on 4 months
