Downloadable Video in Members Area
I have always just used video plugins and my own videos streamed in Real to prevent members from joining, downloading and cancelling right away. I think a large percentage of my members are still on dialups and would prefer downloading clips.
My site is a pregnant niche so Im a little worried about seeing exclusive content downloaded and traded all over. Is it worth that loss? I have a lot of full length movies. If I offered downloads what format and what size clips should I offer? The entire video broken down? the "good parts" in small clips? Any opinions? |
Trading can't be stopped really... put a stamp of your url on the first and last few seconds of every clip. You might get some signups from the p2p people if they really like the video and they can't find more.
I've bought trial memberships to many sites for "research" :glugglug and I think the clips should be at least 2-5 mins. Mpeg is still the most universal format and the more savvy users will be able to join them into one big clip for their uniterrupted viewing pleasure. or if you use .wmv make the clips 5mins or longer. To my knowledge .wmv can't be easily and quickly joined with simple software like mpeg can. (Yes a surfer could load it premiere or similar and render it...but that takes too long.) my :2 cents: |
By "full length" if you mean something like 45-60 minutes, like mine, you have really little choice but to continue in real media. (Not streamed, served from the HTTP server)
Mpeg and even .wmv are just too large to handle long movies when most surfers stilll have dialups. Most people I know with "feature" sized movies break them into 5 minute clips of real media. That works out to about 8 meg each clip at 256 kbs setting, which give reasonably good resolution, using Realmedia 8 I think it is. I watermark the entire video with my website address. If it ends up on Kaaza, at least its a free ad. |
Label your video in one way or another. If it does get passed around, it's a free promo and you don't have to worry about the bandwidth.

Got all the content I need in this niche.

Want to make some extra $$$ Smegma? ;) I hear you have a cute wife! lol

Hey Miss Eve. If I remember correctly, AVN had a "How To" on adding pop-ups to WVM movies that couldn?t be removed.
Even if it got passed around, it might do you some good?? Back to the suckling. |
That's a great idea, not that she isn't in a bad enough mood already being 9 months and 2 weeks - I'll grab the old Canon GL1 and ask her to Moulin Rouge for 30 minutes.
It would take weeks to remove her tonails from my lower GI. |
You should make them downloadable....so I can find them somewhere and watch them for free :Graucho

Had a very interesting conversation with a webmaster in Vegas. He loves to have his content stolen and used. Cos the guys that steal it are generally to lazy to remove his watermark, the sites are fuck ups, and when he sees them he has them pulled down. However in the meantime the surfer has got hooked onto his porn and when he sees it ,he wants to see more. He then just heads off in the direction of the URL at the bottom. This is how he gets so many members who type in his URL and join straight away. |
Solution: Take your content and encode in Windows Media Format. Using DRM (Digital RIghts Management) technology you can only allow the content to play to the rules that you set or decide to change on the fly. If stolen, you ca have that content come back again.
This is a service we offer to webmasters at no charge. Here's the catch, we hardcode our affiliate code and when it drives a hit back, pay us based on your program. email me: tucker at playasolution.com and you can try it out. Its pretty cool technology and really lets you come up with cool marketing ideas around it. Let me know and I can send you samples to play with. ;) l8 |
