Nothing. Idiot tourists go there, no one that lives in the UK goes there.

Webmaster Advertising 03-12-2013 06:31 PM

Some do, unfortunately.

RE OP: If you ever watched Sex in the City, well, if it was set in London, them girls would go there, and spend stupid amounts on hideous "fashion".

That's why it is so "special". Because you to be "special" I.E. an idiot, to shop there.

They will get you anything. Want a baby elephant and they will find one to sell you.

Harrods is pretty amazing. I live right behind it. My wife loves Harrods. Why? Because of the high end variety they offer. You aren't their typical client. It's not personal you just aren't. We've seen people spend $500,000 on 3 handbags and not even be bothered to touch the bags they come in (Driver handles it all). It's another whole other world.

That much I know, there are always a few Rolls Royces, etc. outside with drivers and I know there are a handful of high end stores that you cannot get into even if you are seriously loaded, you need to be known and (probably) invited to be able to set your foot in.

Just curious how many of the 100 000 - 300 000 daily visitors buy $170 000 handbags. Did your wife buy one? Please post pics, just curious to see what they look like....

Hellll no she didn't :)

I'd love to see a breakdown of what clients make them money.

When I used to live in London I went to Harrods for their food department. The prices were not ridiculous, mind you it isn't cheap though.

Shap - Knightsbridge is a great area, glad you found a nice area to live.

What color Birkin does MRS Shap have? ;-)

Porko 03-13-2013 09:56 AM

the building itself it worth a visit. Is a very british place with a lot of history.
nowadays you won't find anything unique there but time ago was the place to buy rare delicatessens.

I use to live in London (city that I love) and this place is a must. So if you have a bon vivant side, be sure to visit Harrods.

Actually it was blown up by the IRA in 1993. Killed 6 people in the run up to Christmas. I bought a tin of bumble bees in brine there for a pound :)

color or (S) lol

It's called battle of the birkins here. It's fuckin nuts. We had lunch at our gym a month ago and I counted 13 birkins in and out in a 60 minute period. My wife met one lady who converted one of her bedrooms into a handbag room because she had nowhere to store her 27 birkins. It's crazy enough to have 27 birkins and even crazier to take some of the most valuable real estate in the world and turn it into a handbag room lol

The food hall is pretty nifty if you are a foodie. Otherwise, I never enjoyed being even inside the building.

These are people that have so much money it doesn't matter. I don't even know what their worth is. 100s of millions? Who knows. It's a drop in the bucket. I agree it seems absolutely insane. I'm guessing to them it seems normal.

Manfap 03-14-2013 03:25 PM

Food hall is nice although Fortnums just about beats it. Favorite department is the christmas decorations one.. it is truely magical.
