The 405 hp engine and badass suspension only comes in the Z06.

I have a 2001 coupe, its pretty damn fast, had it over 150 going through Utah. But for a $50,000 car I don't think they are built all that great, lots of plastic and already some rattles. I guess thats the only way to keep em lightweight though.

Definitely. I had a '00 Coupe fully loaded, traded it in for a '02 Z06 and the difference is night and day, much much funner car to drive.

stevo 02-22-2003 12:05 AM

Ive been dreaming about a Corvette for the past 2 years! I think this is the year i might get one. I want the Z06, but i dont think i want a stick for this heavy Orlando traffic, so i think ill go for the convertible. I want to buy a used 2000-2002, the only thing stopping me now is that they are putting out a brand new redesign "C6" im guessing this April. Cant wait til this comes out - supposively some big changes. Im a 21 year old college student, might as well go through my midlife crisis now!

aarrrgggghhhhhh 02-22-2003 12:28 AM

u sure the c6 is coming out this year?

aarrrgggghhhhhh 02-22-2003 12:30 AM

2005 Chevrolet Corvette: The C6 will be underpinned by a chassis evolved from the current C5, that benefited from shared development with the Cadillac XLR, including the Magnetic Selective Ride Control (MSRC) dynamic damping system. Base engine is rumored to be a Gen IV 6.0-liter/380-horsepower V-8 with displacement on demand. The modern, wind-cheating styling is reported to be reminiscent of the 1963-1967 Sting Rays. Coupe and convertible models are expected at launch in spring 2004.

Rochard 02-22-2003 12:56 AM

I almost bought one about six months ago. I remember the moment when I decided against it...... That night I had to pick up Lightspeed at the airport, and I knew his luggage was too big for the little trunk.

Truth is I need a daily driver. I need to pick people up at the airport; I need to go shopping; And at times I need to take more than two people with me.

Thus I ended up with the 2+2 seater Mustang GT.

I think the crowd the Vette is marketed towards can afford to own more then one vehicle. :)

Sama 02-22-2003 01:33 AM

Stevo,
I bought my "beauty" at Rogers Corvette Center in Orlando. He has some really nice vettes there. Has a nice web site too.
She is really, really awesome to drive! Best car I have ever owned. :thumbsup

Ah, lots of those around these parts. Nice cars, but I have never seen caucasian young people driving them.

SLK 1/4 mile: 15.5 sec @ 90 mph
Z06 1/4 mile: 12.5 sec @ 116.3 mph

I like performance, though. Couldn't care less about luxury. I am a redneck Canadian, not a wanna be pimp.

aarrrgggghhhhhh 02-22-2003 01:56 AM

i'm with you p00p

Smart decision. They are definitely more of a car to use when you want to have fun, not to use as your main vehicle. No back seat, no storage room, and not a quiet ride.

The Z06's are definitely nice but to keep the weight down they don't offer any options with them at all, even the seats are basic (no power). This may have changed with the 2003's, not sure.
You can get a regular vette and add a couple of mods and you'll have the same or more horse than a Z06. But yea, Z06's are cool.

stevo 02-22-2003 02:46 AM

Cool, ill have to check that place out, maybe even drive over this weekend! Heh, they even offer 8 year financing...

Dirty1 02-22-2003 02:48 AM

sold a '95 a few years back....

I swear this "little cock" backlash almost outweighted the benefits.

Almost.

Well a lot of the options most people want are standard on the Z06 anyway (heads-up display, 6-spd). Mine also has a power driver's seat, not as many different movements though as the Coupe has. It can go forward/back, and tilt by power.

aarrrgggghhhhhh 02-22-2003 09:39 AM

vettes rule :)

Nice bike. But, a Mustang over a Vette? hahaha.....
You should have picked up your friend at the airport with one of your other cars. A vette is totally impractical. If you can afford one, you don't give a shit about practicality. :2 cents:

Evil Chris 02-22-2003 10:07 AM

Corvettes are NICE... :thumbsup

xdcdave 02-22-2003 10:21 AM

Z06? Pleaseee.. Callaway baby :thumbsup

Nothing like the sound of two monster turbos spooling on a V8.. a wet dream on wheels! :winkwink:

but 20x better than a civic...

and you need to compare the slk 32 amg. its not as fast as the top corvette, but its build 10x better and has a retractable hardtop.

That car is not as fast as the normal Corvette. And the Corvette can be bought with as a 'vert. The Z06 would trounce the Benz, not even close.

Each to his own, that Benz is a beast. My personal taste is performance over anything. Maybe when I am old my tastes will change. :2 cents:
