Did journalist Martin Bashir tell it like it is or did he betray Michael Jackson?s trust in a misleading TV special?

I just watched "THE MICHAEL JACKSON INTERVIEW: THE FOOTAGE YOU WERE NEVER MEANT TO SEE ".

And I must say I am shocked! I think that Bashir lost all his credibility (if he had any to start with). I hated the interview he did with Michael and thought it was unfair! Isn't a journalist suppose to be impartial?!?

Yeah, he betrayed his trust, but he shouldn't have trusted him in the first place. It was Michael's stupidity/naivete (and general freakiness) that got him trouble.

Martin Bashir is a snake that was trying to make a bigger name for himself. The only reason MJ did it was because Bashir did a good job with the Princess Di interview and thought he would give a complete interview on him. Bashir seemed more like a prosecuting attorney than an objective reporter. Plus if you saw the Fox special and saw all the stuff Bashir left out, you will know how ruthless the press is for shocking stories and ratings. They really twisted what Michael said and did voice overs that blatantly contradicted what their feelings were when Bashir was in MJ's presence. Fuck Bashir!!

Compared to what? Show me another billionaire who has been a national and worldwide celebrity since he was 8 years old and we can get some grounds to say that.

well just by the nature of being in that exclusive club he is a freak. I get your point, but don't tell me he is normal. Didn't say he is a bad person,etc. Howver, no he is not normal.

we get the counter show sometime this week. I'll check it out but we have seen a lot of clips from it already.

Nope. Journalists are supposed to make the show sell. He did pretty well, although now he will probably have a hard time getting interviews.

I agree with you. There was a LOT on the footage that explained some of the open-ended questions from the Bashir interview. Not to mention that 20 or so things that Bashir said on the "official" footage that he completely reversed in the "private" parts of the tape. That guy is a shithead.

I'm afraid most of what you read today is "tainted" The news media all over the world is owned by big business, men like Murdoch, and unless you say or sell what the boss wants you will not get it out.

Bashir thought he was being clever, but obviously MJ thought he would be safe and film his own back up version.

Why in the name of gawdamitey does anyone CARE about Michael Jackson in the first place?

For me it's because his music gave me a lot of pleasure as a kid. I enjoyed his songs and I still think he's one of the most talented performers of our times. It's fascinating in a sad way.

Martin Bashir is an asshole. He asked MJ questions then only used a portion of his answers & filled in the rest with his own thoughts. He went out of his way to be mean & make MJ look bad.
If I was MJ I'd be very pissed off.

i think the reason he paid off (settled with) the family that accused him of child sex-abuse is that the family knew mike would have to pay, because there is NO way jacko could get a fair trial being who he is doing the things he does. fair meaning a jury of 12 impartial people.

c'mon, deep down inside mike knows he's wacked, but he also knows that money can just about get him anything he needs to stay that way - safe and protected.

After the initial program aired sales went up 300+% for MJ's albums here in the states...some news reports were stating 1,000% in the UK.

This 2nd show I'm sure helped MJ with even more sales.

The guy has made money off of his image since he was a child, he manipulated this whole interview process as much as people think he was manipulated.

Kudos to him I guess.

i hate that man...have personal reasons being married to someone who used to work for him ..but largely I hate how he controls so much of what people think. Fox, sky, just about every newspaper in the UK. The whole changing citizenship every two seconds thing. Banning of books by his publisher in Asia that talk badly of China.

Talking to my American friends it is amazing how little they know about him. I guess I didn't know a whole lot about him before I moved here other than when he tried to buy CBS.

My 2 cents on the MJ Interview

I was unfortunatly involved in the Media for almost 2 years with regard to my sites. It was a nightmare. They twisted everything I said, I had a guy sit outside my house 24/7 and when I went to buy a cup of coffee at the local store I ended up on the front page with my coffee in hand.

I also watched the Interview and understand MJ very well. I was a prisoner in my own home for 2 years until I moved basically overnight to a remote area with no forwarding address.

I could NOT imagine living like that all my life. All the money in the world could not give me the freedom I have going to the mall or just going into the yard.

And his kids, hell I put a cover on my kids also if I would be him. He doesn't want anybody to kidnap them, would you?

I hate the Media, period!!

I still have my Michael Jackson doll.

Take MJ out of the equation completely and look at it: it really shows what a hideous slant the media does on stories.

Just recently on the recent news show on porn (remember, the one that was supposed to be all about the Fortune 500 Companies in porn, but spent almost the whole hour focusing on a porn star and her gang bang scenes?! :mad: ), the porn actress said over and over again how they took her words and twisted them. Bravo for MJ for having PROOF of this abuse of the media.

I'm no fan of MJ - I think he has a lot of psychological problems due to his upbringing, but the Bashir story was obviously a grave injustice and I'm DAMN glad MJ had the foresight to have back up cameras filming EVERYTHING. I hope he sues the crap out of the producers and I hope Bashir never gets another job.

it? Everybody benefitted from this......Jackson is in the news.
His songs are being played continiously on radio stations. Sales
are boosting, the press is writing......it´s called Marketing.

True but as a true entertainer, Bashir delivered exactly what the audience wanted.

I had one too..i remember one of my friend's parents getting up in arms because I had him dating Barbie. Twits. Not like he had anything bellow anyway.

i can't see what bashir did wrong, he got the story and exposed a middle aged man that sleeps with 12 year old boys very regularly. that's not normal and illegal, i can't believe he hasn't been locked up.

it was stated in the media over here that he has an alarm in his bedroom to warn him if adults are approaching his bedroom when he's in there on his own with children.

he was also found to have loads of pictures of naked children in his bedroom when he was investigated for the jordy chandler business.

and some of the investigating officers/social worker types that worked on the jordy chandler case were interviewed him here made it clear that they felt he was a danger to children.

bashir might have been a bit slimey in the way he got him to open up, but good on him i say, fuck micheal jacksons feelings. if bashir had stated ANYTHING untrue in that inverview, MJ one of the most litigious people in america would have sued his ass off, but he hasn't which speeks for itself.

he did some great music in his time, but that is beside the point. whether he's just got a child's mind as some people state, or whether all the toys/neverland stuff is paedophilic grooming, we will probably find out sooner or later when/if he's arrested. but either way what he does is wrong and he must know it, and i can't believe other people try and make out that bashir made him look bad.

then don't do the interview if you aren't willing to answer such a basic question that you know the guy is going to ask.

I don't like Bashir..because of past interviews in the UK...but I think it is a bit silly for people such as Jackson who know the way the media works to court the media one day and then go mad when the media doesn't bend to their will. It isn't just Jackson and it isn't just this situation.

Like I have said about Diana before..she would have people call and tip off journalists where she would be and complain when they showed up. Can't have it both ways.

The guys an asshole and looks even more like one now that the unseen videos came out on that show.

Yes, I believe the interview could not be stopped. This is, after all, America (at keast after they broadcast it in the UK). Michael Jackson has money and lawyers but any given big-three network (or Fox) has way more.

Michael Jackson is plenty rich. Do you really believe he consented to b belittled, portrayed as a child-molesting weirdo and have his words twisted in front of the world just to boost album sales? Please.

Actually I do.....and by the look of it......it has worked quite well.
It doesn´t matter what people write or say about you....as long
as they write and talk about you. There was a backup film crew
so now there are 2 sides of the story, double the news, double
airtime, controversie, the whole shebang.......people love drama
it´s the #1 seller on TV and print media........stars need drama
and gossip.....it keeps them in the spotlights even when there is
little else to keep them there.......stars can´t make hit records/movies 24/7/365........press and stars live of eachother
they need eachother......and they love/hate eachoter.

and I agree.... Jackson is the poster boy for FreakShow. The fucking guy is delusional and downright fucking bizarre.

OK, so people are quick to say he's a freak...but what's makes him such a freak? And by what standards? When someone is different and succesful it drives others crazy!
