Anybody following that Elisa Lam story?
Haven't heard of it till yesterday. Not even sure how far they are with the investigation right now.
For those who don't know: A girl was found dead in a watertank on top of a hotel. The hotel guests have been drinking that water for 2 weeks or so. Nobody knows how she got in that tank. Apparently before they found her the police released a video of her in the hotel lift. Which is a really fucked up video: |
She looks like someone on drugs or mentally ill. Kinda like my ex-wife.

The video at 1:58 is just scary. Wouldn't surprise me if somebody slipped some lsd in her drink. |
very strange case. whoever put her there was obviously knew the hotel very well, going through doors that normally would set off alarms and such. and why was she even there? that is not the hotel she was supposed to be staying at. all very strange.

Weird.. Reminds me of Dark Water
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Water_(2002_film) `One evening, after yet another strange occurrence involving the red bag, Yoshimi is drawn to the roof of the building, and while examining the huge water tank she notices that it was last inspected – and thus opened – over a year ago, on the day Mitsuko was last reported seen. She comes to the horrific realization via a vision that Mitsuko had fallen into the tank while trying to retrieve her red bag, and was thus drowned.` |
certainly not running on all cylinders.

Better off dead??
|
First i'd heard about this.
2 weeks ?? That must have been some shitty tasting water... |
Frank, saw that a few weeks ago. Read an interview with a couple that was staying in the hotel, said everyday the water pressure got lower and lower ?. Imaging showering and drinking water, brushing teeth, all with water that has a decomposing corpse in it.
I was also surprised a hotel in LA would even be using a cistern and not city water. . |

or hide, or 'get better hiding spots' in the elevator, or keep 'looking outside' like that as if you're being followed drugs tho must be. she got to the roof by asking nicely and decided to slip into that 'pool' of drinking water that was of course unlocked |
i live across the street from that hotel. the water from that particular cistern was only used for cooking and such, primarily in the coffee shop, which i did use to frequent when i got my coffee on the outside.
the autopsy was just released, inconclusive. they think she was high on ectasy but it's really bizarre how she ended up in that tank, it's not easy getting all the way up there. also, the cecil hotel is not for the naive, it's a cheap hotel/hostel in downtown and has historically drawn crazy people, it's a stop on a la horror bus tour, richard ramiraz stayed there when he was on his killing spree. hell, my barber tells me about the days when he was up to no good and running shit out of the cecil. |

the water pressure of the one system that cistern supplied water to had impacted pressure. also, they still are not sure of her being killed. |

i do find it a bit of a coincidence that there was another girl from canada near my area that went to LA for a job she found online only she never made it to her hotel and disappeared to be found a week or so later with injuries. it was never released what happened to her while there though. |

but on the other hand, i don't see how a killer could climb to the top of that tank carrying a dead body. |

now that i think about it, i guess that means she was killed eh? if she didn't drown in that tank, then she was already dead when she was put in it right? |
Definitely looks like she's apprehensive of someone following her. Creepy footage. She certainly doesn't look like she's in her right mind.
|
Can't they tell if she died before she went in the water
|
Never seen an elevator door stay open that long. Every one I've ever been in is trying to shut on me as I enter it. lol

From what I understand about the video after reading various sources:
She was followed to the elevator by someone. The reason the elevator door didn't close is because that someone or someones were holding the call button, therefore keeping the elevator on that floor with the door open. That someone or someones knew there was a security camera in the elevator and knew not to move in front of the door. The woman apparently tried to reason with the person holding the call button several times, but they wouldn't release it. She panicked and tried to get the elevator to move by pressing all of the buttons. After some time, the person or persons convinced her to come with them and she left the elevator, they released the call button, and you can see the elevator closes and starts going to different floors again. The appearance of her acting weird seems to be just a poor woman in a panicked state trying to get someone to release the elevator door so she could get the hell out of there. *Edit - This is all just speculation of course, not fact. |
The Cecil hotel itself has had a long history of strange and dark things happening there. The Black Dahlia stayed there. Serial killers Richard Ramirez and Jack Unterweger stayed in the Cecil, but many more people have died after checking in.
In the 1950s and 1960s, the Cecil was known as a suicide hotspot, as people leapt to their deaths from the top floor. Among those who died are: Helen Gurnee A woman in her 50s, she jumped to her death from a seventh floor window on 22 October 1954. Julia Moore On 11 February 1962, Moore killed herself by jumping from a room window on the eighth floor. Pauline Otton Twenty-seven-year-old Otton killed herself by jumping out of a ninth-floor window after a heated argument with her estranged husband on 12 October 1962. Otton landed on 65-year-old pedestrian George Gianinni, 90 feet below, and killed him. "Pigeon Goldie" Osgood Retired telephone operator Osgood was found raped and murdered in her ransacked room on 4 June 1964. Her murder remains unsolved. The Cecil was built to provide businessmen with accommodation in the city, but as Los Angeles outgrew the downtown area, it fell on hard times. The hotel's basic facilities were quickly outshone by newer rivals, and it became a long-term hostel for people down on their luck. This was during 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Although some parts of the hotel are still reserved for long-term occupation, and some are set aside as a backpackers' hostel, the new owners of the Cecil have renovated three floors, returning them to use as hotel rooms. It is unclear if Elisa Lam was occupying a room in the hotel or the hostel. |
