Question about hardlinks, backlinks, etc.. sales

Hey guys/gals..

so i have a site that i'm working on the site with... developing a business plan.. yatta yatta yatta... the site's been going since 2011... getting about 60k uniques a month.. not bad for no advertising and no budget.. but i have a question for ya'll

I recently was approached by a couple different firms asking if i would sell text links on the first page of my site. Well.. yea! i'm paying 154/mo on hosting so hell yes i will.. helps pay the bills.. right?

but what are the in's and outs.. do's and dont's about selling text links and advertising to people on a site?

These people found me and contacted me.. Obviously I'd love it if it would keep happening.. but i want to know what and how to work this if it is to happen again.

I also want to know what I can do to make it continue to happen. I'd love to get to a point where backlink/text link sales are enough to pay my hosting bills for the year. That would be awesome..

Hopefully this isn't too much of a noob question..

thanks for the help

I would let a trusted ad agency handle it as I don't want to deal with Paxium and such.

hotbodybattles 03-09-2013 08:20 AM

Deal with Paxium? what does that mean? sorry.. i'm new at selling hardlinks, text links and advertising space...

These people were from a specific porn company.. and they specifically sent me money via paypal.. etc.. it was easy.. just emailed back and forth.. decided on a price... and they sent me money and i put the link up for the time they asked (6 months.. and 1 year)..

I'd just love to find more places that want to do the same so i could pay for hosting fees..

154 per month for 1 site with 60k is that right?

He means dealing with "Paxum" i guess - which is another payment processor like PayPal, a lot of people around these forums use it.

You can use forums like the one here, a lot of people would pay for text links if your site is a decent pagerank and is getting a decent amount of traffic.

He might just be using a dedicated server, but yeah i do see your point otherwise.

If you are paying $154 per month for one website then you could probably be paying $10 per month elsewhere.

hotbodybattles 03-09-2013 09:04 AM

I have multiple sites.. and host not only my sites but others.. and yes it's a dedicated server. I needed a dedicated server because the code running on my site is very databse intensive and wouldn't run on shared hosting.. it is what it is and i've absorbed the cost into my own personal finances at this point. But it's getting old.. .fast... which is why i'd like to find some advertisers to compensate.

I like having a dedicated server though.. I like being able to have cronjobs and write backend scripts to run the site.. and have full control, and be root. So it's the price i pay i guess.

Try adding pop-unders or mobile redirects, that should earn you most of your money back.

hotbodybattles 03-09-2013 09:37 AM

pop unders huh.. wanted to try to avoid that if possible but can you recommend some that have good returns? and what kind of traffic would I need to make that worthwhile? I'm only getting about 60k per month...as far as I'm aware that's not very much..

Kostly 03-09-2013 09:42 AM

Well I actually make quite a bit on mobile redirects (around $28-30/daily) from juicy ads and I have around the same traffic as you. I may be mobile heavy though with traffic. I get around $1 daily from pop-under with juicy ads, I hear plug rush is better though.

I wouldn't recommend juicy ads mobile redirect as it seems buggy.

BTW I use a very heavy database program and I get away with shared hosting via host gator!

hotbodybattles 03-09-2013 09:42 AM

what would be the best way to advertise on the forums to see if people would be interested in purchasing some back links? list my page ranks.. links to my sites.. price I'm looking for? etc?

How much you charging for a navigation link month/year

Kostly 03-09-2013 09:49 AM

I wouldnt bother with GFY and other forums, too many trolls. I guess you can try but...

hotbodybattles 03-09-2013 12:33 PM

Kostly... wow.. that's a lot of money made on redirects.. what does it actually mean to do a mobile redirect? does that mean that people try to get to my site via mobile and get sent off to another site and never get to go to my site?

I'll have to look at how much of my traffic is coming via mobile...

AllAboutCams: I really just got into it and have only sold two text links.. but one place bought 2 links (one on two of my sites) for a year for 300. Then another place bought 2 links (one on two of my sites) for 6 months for 175..

Apparently it was worth it to them... so who knows.. i was happy to take the money and put it towards my hosting fees.

I've tried to do shared hosting .. and the site just grinded to a halt. The photobattle script isn't written very well so i would have to do a total rewrite to get it to be less database intensive and i'm really not sure exactly how'd i'd architect that. I bought the script third party..

Next though is a social network i'm developing.. that's definitely going to need a dedicated server... so i'm just dealing with it for now and paying the $.. but if i could figure out a way to get the site to at least pay for itself in that regard.. i'd be a much happier camper.

Kostly 03-09-2013 03:06 PM

Yea your mobile is redirected off to another site. Its suppose to happen only once every 72 hours.

hotbodybattles 03-09-2013 03:17 PM

wouldn't that piss people off?

i'm looking at about 11000 mobile visits a month.. site really isn't build for mobile... have to update the template.. and have been planning on it.. but with my regular job.. and my son who's 1 year old.. it's tough to find the time..

Kostly 03-09-2013 03:34 PM

It might piss people off, would piss me off. But I make $30/day on it so I am not worried:)

hotbodybattles 03-09-2013 03:41 PM

ok.. so what's your mobile traffic look like? would 11k a month get me anywhere? or do i need much more?

Also.. you mentioned every 72 hours.. but are you just doing it all the time?.. so people can never get to your page via mobile? is that kind of counter productive? i mean obviously 30/day isn't counter productive.. but do you think after a while the mobile traffic will cease if they realize they wont get anything out of it other than other sites?

i'm willing to try anything ... i just want to know all the basics before i enter into it

p.s. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE HELP Kostly... i REALLY appreciate it... i know you're probably busy and the fact that you're taking time to help me out means a lot

Kostly 03-09-2013 03:58 PM

Honestly the traffic is redirected on the Apache layer before it gets to loading my page, thus it doesn't get google to index it through analytics. I know it is over 600 hits daily. Probably allot more.

hotbodybattles 03-09-2013 04:00 PM

ok.. so you're at 600.. i'm at about 366 daily mobile.. so i should expect about 10-15 a day.. 300/mo.. dude.. that's AWESOME.. That would make enough money and more.

But the final question is.. do you redirect everything mobile and basically never let anyone access your site via mobile? or do you do half the traffic? etc..

Kostly 03-09-2013 04:29 PM

Currently mobile users can't use my site. Thats part of the problem with juicyads.

hotbodybattles 03-09-2013 04:30 PM

mmm.. but the payout is awesome... have you done any research to see if there are any other mobile redirect services out there that are comparable in their payout? but might not have any issues like that?

PeR930 03-09-2013 04:38 PM

$30 on 600 mobile redirects? Is that right? Im getting about $4 ecpm for mobile redirects with plugrush. How is that possible?

PeR930 03-09-2013 08:16 PM

The highest country ecpm for juicyads mobile redirects is under $20 but most are just a couple bucks. I'm not sure how you're getting over $30 ecpm. Maybe $30 per 6K, but not 600. Maybe I read something wrong?

That's what I know. I do not know ANY Analytic's behind the data. I have contacted Juicy-ads and asked them if it was right, they said yes.

That is what I said

PeR930 03-10-2013 12:07 PM

They do tell you exactly how many redirects you are sending so you dont have to guess.

hotbodybattles 03-11-2013 08:53 PM

i'm reeeeeeeeeeeeealy interested to see if this really works..
what are the numbers! gotta know!

PeR930 03-11-2013 08:55 PM

Don't get your hopes up. He's probably closer to 6,000 mobile redirects/day or more to get $30, not 600.

hotbodybattles 03-12-2013 05:20 AM

damn.. well.. still would love to see the real number on it cause that's a pretty sweet cash flow

Kostly 03-12-2013 06:37 AM

yea its around 6K

hotbodybattles 03-12-2013 11:03 AM

aww damn... well thanks for the help anyways Kostly! always appreciated..

robber 03-13-2013 12:00 PM

If you wanted to check on juicy ads you just click on pending and it will give you the total number of redirects done in total.

Rob
