+1

Unless you are around it, learning a language well is difficult. Books and CDs will only take you so far, you need to be having real conversations (or trying) in the language you want to learn.

I need to learn Spanish. I'm thinking Rosetta Stone too.

lezinterracial 03-08-2013 12:40 PM

I really liked Pimsleur.

Here is Russian lesson 1. On the video, Change quality to 480p so it won't sound all messed up.

Rossetta is great

helterskelter808 03-11-2013 08:32 PM

Speak louder in English.

96ukssob 03-11-2013 09:11 PM

Just move there for 6 months, you'll be forced to learn. Just like swimming!

blazin 03-12-2013 12:27 AM

Has anyone that is recommended Rosetta Stone actually learned a language with it. It seems boring and repetitive to me.

2013 03-12-2013 12:36 AM

move to that country and live by yourself

CampHost 03-12-2013 12:39 AM

I have a ebook that will show you how to learn any language in 15 seconds, it's really amazing! Let me know if you want the link... :laughing-

Petra 03-12-2013 01:46 AM

Immersion if you want to speak it.

If you study only with a program/book/audio you'll be able to read and listen but you'll be lacking in speaking since you won't have a chance to pick up the "music" of the language without hearing it around you constantly.

Also, unless you have a knack for languages, learning another one as an adult is hell. However, I keep being told if you can get it under your belt, #3 is easier.

+2 - A friend of mine, an electrical engineer from Spain said he tried Chinese course and in 10 days he could get around Chinatown pretty easily. I think I am going to try it to learn Thai. Immersion is the best. I learned Arabic that way.

Katie-LifeSelector 03-12-2013 02:13 AM

I learned Russian while I was living in Kazakhstan surrounded by Russian speaking people. Really helps.

For starters there is this RussianPod101 - there are some useful videos on Youtube

Rosetta Stone is a MASSIVE con trick/ponzi scheme.

amateurWebmaster 03-12-2013 03:14 AM

My method (fastest I know) and tested on language that you want to know (Russian):

- 3 months of learning with some local private teacher (60 classes)
- then 3 months in Russia (winter, temparatures were go to ~ -20C / -4F )

theory + practice, working like a charm, so I am speaking Russian very decent. But...

when I tried this with SPANISH...
- learned something with Spanish teacher few months
- went 2 months on Ibiza, Costa del Sol, and few other cities on coast

MY SPANISH SUMMARY: spent more than 10K eur + forgot everything I learned with local teacher + learned ~100 Spanish words + got some hard genital infection and 20 and something injections of some hard antibiotic + needed 15 days to recover from this language 'learning'

So,CONCLUSION IS: This method only works on places where is cold so girls have a lot of clothes.

LOOP: IF girls are pretty naked in bikinis and so on, THEN this method don't work, ELSE is OK.
