What the Chinese think of Canadian Socialism
 

Had an interesting conversation the other day. Turned on my ICQ, and like always I'm hit up by a bunch of people and often by Chinese women looking to practice English, so sometimes I chat. And what amazed me by the last few I talked to was the national pride.

What's weird is they don't want to leave, unlike many poor women in lots of third world countries that want to do anything to get out, the Chinese like it there.

Imagine someone in China, not wealthy, a poor uneducated worker in a city trying to get ahead, who knows about the Canadian health care system, isn't concerned about how it's paid for, but looks at it as inferior to what's available in China even though she knows the Canadian system is technologically better and fairer to everyone.

Imagine the same person looking at Canada with disgust in how we treat our retired people. OK, I can see it from someone misinformed, but she wasn't. She was educated, when asked questions she knew Canadian seniors get government pensions, can get government housing and can free health care, and STILL saw this as inferior to what they do in China. AND all she could offer to compare in China was how families take care of their elderly - the infrastructure did not compare for health at all.

That's what China is doing right. It's not about what we give our people, but how our people treat each other.

And that's a concept America missed totally, but even Canada falls short on when compared to how ordinary people in China view themselves as a country and a people.

I think that totally explains the mentality....

I wouldn't generalize about how a whole population feels based on a couple web chats. If Chinese really felt that way then why is Canada flooded with Chinese people looking for a better way of life? Our biggest immigrant group are people from China.

They probably think they treat dogs better there too. Who gives a fuck. They're two in a billion people and they're wrong.

People in third world shitholes have to take care of their elderly family members because they don't have a choice, due to living in backward, corrupt societies that don't have the social and welfare programs in place to provide an alternative.

Young people having to take care of their parents, without it being a choice, as happens in primitive cultures, is simply objectively wrong.

It's the parent's responsibility to take care of their children; not the other way around.

Chinese are flooding into Australia. Anyone with money is working like heck to get their money and kids out of there but yeah otherwise it is a good story.

Great, more people learning bad English from Canada. Just what I need when I go to the Chinese buffet, I get circle ham that says "bacon" and they hand me my check and say "my engrish is good, eh?"

I have heard that some American think their country is the best too, even thought he reat of the World can't believe it when the country throws the poor out of hospitals, sends a lot of its children to school hungry, and has more people in prison than any other country (and one race ).

In general Chinese will never acknowledge problems with their country, and if they do they will drop some sort of excuse such as they are still a developing nation.

It's completely impossible for me to believe that 99% of the women there wouldn't bolt to Canada in a flash if they could. They all know the baby formula in China is tainted and the medicines in the hospitals are fake. If some chick is telling you otherwise it's only because she thinks it's going to be what the western guys she is working on ICQ would want to hear. Tell her you are flying over on business next month and see how fast it all spins.

I feel I have some considerable experience with this issue. YMMV.
