If I did what they did our pictures would be all over the net.
You would have problems keeping members, getting listed on TGPs.
You would be left to only compete on price.
Not the situation we are in. Our content converts and retains members.
Otherwise we would not be as successful as we are.
And we would be offering 50% to all who come.

I admire his honesty and courage though.

But how badly is the other supplier doing to give away 50% to a guy who admits he will not buy a lot.

Or is it a big fish testing me out to see how eager we are to sell.

I think it was a bluff. I do not discount (other to members of my mailing list) until the deal gets fairly substantial. At least a few hundred bucks just to get started. Like you, if someone wants to buy me "to the walls," we can start talking about 50%

Do you know who the other party was? If you don't, it was private enough.

Why would you post ICQ logs to a public message board.. that doesn't seem very nice or professional.

Because it can give you some idea of the way others think.

The internet is not some sort of Fraternity or club. It's a business place. You do not go on a "Chat board" and ask something of a complete stranger and expect it to be some sort secret from the "brotherhood".

If you spoke to a stranger in a bar, would you tell him something you would not want repeated?

He was asking me for 50% off on a $75 deal and telling me what my competition give him. Or was he just lying?

I'd ask for a discount too. I've asked in the past. Some providers will cut the price if you buy a certain amount. Granted, 50% is a pretty big discount but why not offer him 10% or even 20% to get him to buy a lot more content ? Is $2.50 on a $25 set REALLY that important to you ? Why react to the customer like he's offending you ? You wouldn't need to spam the hell out of your content maybe if you'd just let them pretend they're getting a steal by saving $2.50.

I have already provided some guys with 50% off.But these were a big players and spend thousands of sweet US dollars

Its just weird, there was actually a time in this business when posting email/icq chats was frowned upon.

You didnt put the persons name, but i would feel wierd if i had a chat with someone then saw it copy/pasted to a mesg board.

This guy did not want 10%, he wanted 50%

So how would you feel if you were a client of mine for a year and buying, let's say $500 a month and getting 10%. Then this guy comes along and gets 50% on $75.

How flooded do you want the content you buy to be?

We have www.bargainbasementcontent.com for those that want to pay $5 to $15 a set.

And we have www.paulmarkham.com for those that want better stuff that is not dicsounted at the drop of a hat and all over the net. We also feel the prices are set right for the content and do not need to be discounted on 3 sets or $75

THE POINT OF POSTING THIS WAS TO START A DEBATE. It seems to have done just that.

All I gots to say is Charly helps me to make money with his top notch content...and he keeps our sexy icq chat off the boards.

It seems like you already know this guy is going to buy. Use the discount as a carrot to get him to buy more. I.e. At $500 you get 10%, $1000 gets you 15%.

When someone asks for a very special deal, that's usually one of my points: Is it really fair to give one guy a secret discount for no particular reason when some other guy, perhaps even a more regular client, is getting no such deal. When I refuse their request for special consideration, sometimes I'll console them by saying, "At least you'll know when you buy from me, that I'm not screwing you by giving someone else a much better deal for the same thing."

On the other hand, I'm always open to *reasons* to discount: Sending traffic to my membership site, for example. Giving me use of a server with no bandwidth charges. I work deals like that, but there has to be a tit-for-tat aspect.

That sounds fine, but to ask for 50% off all the time, starting with an order for $75, and telling me he will not be buying much. Is not exactly great negotiation skills.

He started out saying he wants a permanent discount of 50% on small orders. He says he will only buy from time to time when I have the right girls. Then he tels me someone else gives it to him, so he is not discreet. Guy needs :BangBang:

I wouldn't discount much if i thought what i was selling was of value. You completely cheapen your product by giving it away. I'd rather do half the sales at regular price than twice the sales at half price. Same net but my customers would feel better that they have something that isn't on every other site on the Net and i'm making the same amount of money.

Content that is oversold is useless.

Ever seen a password request board? Take a look at the sites the wankers want to get into without paying. All sites with some exclusive content or all exclusive content.
