Anyone have a standing work desk?
How high is your desk? Did it take a while to get used to?
|
Be interested in hearing about this as well as I've been seriously considering it. My back has been killing me.
|
No but I want to get one of these motorized desks I thought about getting just a standing desk, but it's nice to be able to sit in the morning drink coffee and get your day started...
|
my girlfriend has two of them, a stove and a kitchen sink
|
I have thought about getting one and seeing if I could at least spend part of my day working at it. Might be kind of a cool way to get some exercise while looking at porn.

that is some really nice idea, thanks for it! :winkwink:

I would love to have two or three, but at the time I looked at this option standing desks were extremely expensive . Maybe it's cheaper to put ladyboys on payroll?
|
When I worked in telco, they had those in the business office. They were nice.
I was 50% standing and 50% sitting most days. A little variety. Plus you could look at the lovelies walking around. |

We have a few employees that work standing about 60% to 70% of the day (they requested standing desks) and they loved it. We also have a lot of exercise ball sitters too. :)

never thought about it, but it's an interesting idea.

My lower back isn't in the best condition anymore, so I alternate between desks and chairs. One of them is a antique standing desk that I picked up at a church yard sale. Then I bought a drafting table chair so I could also sit at it. The drafting chairs are like regular computer chairs only they raise up really high and have a foot rest.
|
man, this is a great idea; sitting is killing us, quite literally, working sitting all day long shortens your life span, not to mention it greatly increases the likelihood of some seriously nasty health conditions
|
I did for three years from 1999 to 2002

It totally depends on your height. I would aim your arm down and bend your elbows up so your arm makes a 90 degree angle and that's a good height to use the keyboard without lifting your arm up. Standing doesn't burn a ton of calories but its better on your body and helps you so you can stand longer. After you do it for a few weeks it's really easy. Make sure you have a cushion for your feet otherwise your back will hurt. I used a piece of 4" seat foam but you can but mats at the store.
I used a stand up desk for about a year then switched to a treadmill desk. Instead of buying one for $3,000 or whatever I took one of These and took the top off and cut the metal so it was flat and put a granite counter top on it. I walk 6-8 miles a day if I'm working a lot from home at 2MPH. |

No but I did just read an article about how sitting all day at work is causing a lot of people more problems than fatty foods. Mainly blood clots and heart issues. So it is definitely a good idea if you have room for both, or a desk that can do both.
|
I used to have one but don't anymore.
I decided to get one after reading about a film editor (Walter Murch) that used one when editing his films. Just thought it would be cool to get off my ass when editing vids & pics. It lasted about 2 weeks and decided to drop it's height and use it as a regular desk. Didn't enjoy it at all :Oh crap |
|
I've had one for 6 years, and would never go back.
The option to stand or sit is twice as good as the option to just sit. That's basic math for you. |
