Attention "bad-ass" programmers -- who can popunder with Chrome 25?

Chrome 25 doesn't allow any control over placing a window behind itself (older versions of chrome obviously do) ... are there any creative solutions being worked on?

Browse the top tube sites using the latest version of Chrome, everyone is "popping-over" instead of the usual, and less intrusive, pop-under.

Discuss.

As a user, I'd rather have a popup than a popunder. Popups I can at least close instead of having to minimize my browser and close then maximize my browser again.

I'm talking about from a biz point of view. I'm sure you'd also prefer to not pay for porn but then we'd all be working at McD's. :)

Anyone solve this issue?

From a biz point of view, if something annoys me, which I'm very tolerant of certain advertising methods as I use them to make a living, but I have this thing where I don't subject my users to things I personally don't like.. I think it puts a little more trust in you by the users and they'll return back more often or even sign up for your pay sites..

But hey, everyone LOVES popups and popunders, especially those ones that pop more pops when clicked to close, so go ahead, keep pissing your users off, and I'll see ya back here in another 6 months when you're bitching about not making sales.

Bug report: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/is...tail?id=160276

Looks like they see it as a feature.

Yeah this was seen in Chrome Canary and was hoping it didn't carry over. The adult net isn't the only one using this method of advertising, it'll be interesting to see if google back peddles

I don't think Google has any programs which directly monetize popunders. In fact it probably competes with their adsense program. Which might in part explain it.

I'm sure the day is coming when there will be no non-text ads, no third party cookies, no popups by default. Anyway I find those floater popups to be infinitely more annoying than popunders. And those are all over the place now.

Keep an eye on this page - https://github.com/hpbuniat/jquery-popunder - and this 'issue' thread https://github.com/hpbuniat/jquery-popunder/issues/15 in particular.

They might come up with something, especially as people are willing to throw money into the pot to get it fixed.

JOKER 03-06-2013 11:05 AM

Any development on this?

levd 03-12-2013 05:13 AM

@eddythedog, this Jquery popunder allready has support for Chrome 25, but i think its not the script we are looking for, the jquery is launced when a button is pressed.

I think we need to look at https://github.com/tuki/js-popunder (click anywhere JS popup)

Going against my instinct that pbbc are all issued imacs...

Code:

Alt - Tab - Alt - F4
Now surrender the red head with the firm buttocks.

YEs and thats the problem !

phypon 03-12-2013 06:54 AM

so far I have one solution for you. I'm not sure how practical it is. I'm a bit bored so looking into it more.

fris 03-12-2013 08:05 AM

got it working

phypon 03-12-2013 08:54 AM

BossDVDs, what's your email? I want to show you my solution.

phypon 03-12-2013 10:10 AM

My simple solution was to add an alert box to the page. That pushes the popup to a popunder. You could simply have a welcome alert box.

I haven't had success yet with other methods avoiding the use of an alert box. Stopping for now. If you can share your solution, fris, I'm curious what you came up with.
