I have a question
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
Look at the top few cpu's. Processor CPU Mark Price (USD) Intel Xeon E5-4650 @ 2.70GHz 14,969 $3,899.99* Intel Xeon E5-2687W @ 3.10GHz 14,819 $1,929.99 Who pays for that top one. Which person spends 2k more for a non noticable improvement? Who do they make this for with those prices? |
People that want the latest and wants to brag about it. I know a few that buys those top of the line things for their gaming rig.
Usually 40+ single men lol |
dunno, but I have 8 of these babies in my server
Code:
processor : 7 Code:
MemTotal: 66013156 kB |
Just one benchmark without details isn't enough to say that it's just a minimal increase.

What I'd like to know is what makes those processors ideal for servers. Clearly the Xeons are server processors - never see gaming rig sites selling them but see them on servers all the time. Specwise they don't look like they should perform better (and in some cases don't at least per those tests), and in general seem shitloads more expensive than top gaming rig processors - why is that so? Lower failure rate or what?
