Anyone using things like Scrapebox and Xrumer for SEO?

Very powerful and effective stuff if used properly.

I didn't suggest "fooling" anyone, nor does my experience with the aforementioned programs include "fooling" anyone. I do think that those who rely only on search results, especially in light of the various Google animal updates need to do some rethinking.

No - using xrumer for back links is really a short sighted plan. It is a true turn and burn now. Before you could keep those sites for a few months. Now you are lucky to have them for a week after they rank.

If you want to focus on link building make sure any places you buy links from or get links from do enough decent internal link building on their site so google doesn't look at that site and go oh this guy ONLY links out to people and makes your link you got/bought worthless.
