drugs more dangeous than guns $.02

Two-thirds of all gun-related deaths in the United States are suicides. In 2010, there were 19,392 firearm-related suicide deaths, and 11,078 firearm-related homicide deaths in the United States.[7]

There were a total of 38,329 drug overdose deaths in 2010 according to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention -- and 60 percent were due to medications, the majority of which were prescription drugs.

Does anyone after reading this board wonder why the US is in such trouble? The US person just wants to scream their point. It doesn't matter if it is right, or sort of right or even dead wrong, the US person just wants to be heard. That is great sometimes but where is the part where you listen? Where you try to resolve your views with the other side and some actual progress happens?

Go back to shouting your sound bites.

Jel 02-20-2013 04:39 PM

On a serious note, I agree with the OP - drugs in all their forms ARE more dangerous than guns, with regards to how many will die as a direct result of at first using them exactly as they are designed to be used.

Right, and in the meantime 9 out of 10 gun nutters would agree with the idiotic post the topic starter made.

Legal drugs (medicine) are made to cure people and save lives. We need them. Guns are made to kill people and we don't need them. At least not in the hands of civilians.
And comparing it go illegal drugs is even more retarded. They are illegal.

That's just marketing, these companies profit when we are sick; the drugs are there to make us sick and keep us sick. Sometimes it's hard to see the wood for the trees :2 cents:

Sarah_Jayne 02-20-2013 04:56 PM

In both cases it really depends on who is using them and how.

Sure most are, but don't be naive. I'm far from a conspiracy theorist, but pills for depression? From memory anti-depressants are the most widely prescribed drug on the planet, and I'm in the they-do-more-harm-than-good side of the camp on those.

I didn't say we 'need' guns did I? I said drugs, in all their shapes and forms, are collectively more dangerous than guns. Big difference to me saying guns are good. Not that I think they are 'bad' per se - I can see both sides of the rational argument.

epitome 02-20-2013 04:58 PM

Misusing prescriptions is illegal. Just as misuse of a gun is illegal.

Your point?

My facebook has very similar rants all the time. The US is totally fucked up right now. Politics is a football game, and we are all expected to root for our team. "Obama just did this!" "Bush just did that." Notice that we are once again at the fiscal cliff. Do you remember these huge budget issues when you were a kid? Did we fight every 12 months over raising the debt ceiling? Did you even know we had one 5 years ago? It is more strident now. I have no doubts about this.
