Well This Just Sucks!

I just heard on CNN that retail gas prices are up 56 cents a gallon this year. (U.S)

BUT - the wholesale price is only up 14 cents, and that is because of the labor strikes in Venezuela.

So is it our local gas stations that are ripping everyone off, their local distributors? Someone is taking serious advantage of the situation aren't they?

Guess we can't blame Bush for this one though can we?

:(

I don't remember the exact figures but the actual wholesale on gas is cheap as hell in comparison. There is a huge ass markup from the transporter and usually a very small markup from the gas station. Stores don't make big money on gas, they just use it to get you in the door. I have seen stations mark up fuel from between 1 cent and 6 cents a gallon. The transporter has a much higher markup.

I pay 1,12 euro per litre (4 litre in 1 gallon?)

That sucks!

I've heard 10 cents a gallon markup at the punp here - so you must be right - the transporters / distributors must be the bastards taking advantage of us.

A station in Columbus Ohio raised their prices a DOLLAR a gallon the night of Sept.11 - three days later the people there raised so much hell with them they closed their doors.

:thumbsup

If you are referring to the figures on what gas stations mark-up it comes from personal experience. I looked at buying 2 different gas stations last year and my partner did business with some of the trucking companies hauling fuel. He also works with several station owners. I will try to get the exact figures out of him tomorrow but I specifically remember him saying his biggest transport customer were getting out of hauling everything but gas because so much money was in it.

Not sure if this holds true all the time but one transport company he spoke with buys the gas from the refinery and sells it themselves to the stations. The truck driver alone kept a larger cut that I would have ever figured. Shreveport, Louisiana here by the way.
