Best alternative to .com
 

Since idiotic godaddy taken all possible .com domains and trying to sell them as a premium or via auction for high prices.

What are best alternatives to .com

If i search on godaddy and it say congratulation you can get this premium .com domain for only $500

And all others .co .net .org .info .me .us are available to register for $10 and less. Which one should i get ?

Don't go to godaddy.. go to another registrar and try to reg the name.

Other registrars just say that domain is already taken.

Then THAT name IS already taken. Find another.

.org if it's financial, health/medical, political, help/informational/resource or of course charity/non-profit, .net if it's anything else. MAYBE .me, .co, .ly or .io for social. Don't bother with anything else - the other exts suck.

That said, if you're getting the domain for a primary brand for a business you want taken seriously, get a .com. Either find something different or fork out the $500. I paid $10,000 once for a domain I intended to develop, never did and sold it for $15,000. You're not just buying a name for a website but an asset as well, remember that.

There is that one really good domain name that bothering me so much that i will bid on it and see how it ends. That is for gaming industry which i believe it have so much potential.

Others that im interested are for some small adult tube sites that i don't plan to be some huge brand. For those i ask what would be best alternative to .com

.co's do rank, .org's are good for blogs .ws kinda sucks but i have a few that are alright

I know what you mean the godaddy auction you get excited because it says the domain is available then you put it in your cart and it says 50k LOL

I have a nice short aged gaming .com left for sale and a couple tube names for good prices if you might be interested.

Certainly if it's for a small site, net/org are fine, and in fact if you're getting an exact match domain for SEO purposes, net/org gives you more bang for the buck anyways.

Pro-Tip: If you searched for that domain and it wasn't registered, the went to register it a couple days later and it's registered by GoDaddy, DON'T USE GODADDY!

They're scum. Use NameCheap. Hell NameCheap's CEO Richard K is a user and has been a user on this board for years.

yeah I have seen this over the last year, where it says its available, but really already registered. But it is somewhat available since the domain owner is trying to sell it via auction or make offer. Godaddy is not taking them though, look at the whois on the domain name. I do know that sometimes registers will hold a domain in their control a little longer in the redemption period. For example if a great domain is being held at Moniker that is in redemption period they will stick it into their snapnames.com auctions. I did get 1 domain like this but over paid a little.

I would stick with a .com, then .org, .net is okay, but .org looks almost like a .com

From my experience, seo-wise the extension does not matter. But relation does. Do not get a org if you want to make a company...that's just stupid thinking. If you want to make a company out of your project, purchase a .com, .net, .co., etc. but not .org. .ORG is reserved for non-profit organizations. :2 cents:

I agree what you say about GoDaddy. I left them and went to NameCheap. So far, so good.

I had major issues with Moniker as well since they sold.

2013 is right, damn finally a smart person who knows about domain ranking, i can't tell you how many times I hear people in the adult industry so called "experts" on domains who says that .co cannot rank. .co do rank. Even though they it is a columbia country domain, Google has designated .co to be a global domain similar to com/org/net so they rank pretty nicely.

Just like everyone is still stuck and believes the myth that aged domains are better because they are aged :1orglaugh. Even a couple of years ago, it sounded stupid to believe the myth after Google debunked it and plain out said that the age of the domain plays a very small factor in it's algorithms. And now after Google's most recent updates, age of domains play are even less of a factor in a website's ability to rank better. But sheep will be sheep :1orglaugh

I can confirm this to be 100% accurate. I test run this theory a while back with a domain that made zero sense and it was not even a word but a string of letters werwererewr something like that and i kept plugging it into godaddy search multiple times over the course of 4 days, and on the 5th day, it was registered by GD :1orglaugh

Not sure what godaddy has to do with the fact that name is taken, its not that whenever yo uenter any .com name godaddy ask 500$ for it. Taken name is taken.

You misunderstood my post, people like to put a big emphasis on age of a domain being important. My point is that it does not play a big factor at all. Quite the opposite, google has already stated a couple of years ago that it plays a very very small factor 1.5-2%, not enough of a factor to make a difference, and now after the Panda updates, that number is further reduced so it's barely even a factor. But the way people believe the myth, they think it helps them by 10-30%. That's the myth :thumbsup

Exactly, if it had an ongoing site the whole time, then yes. But if someone is buying a domain that has been sitting or parked unused, domain age means nothing now.:thumbsup

Im not falling into this aged thing. I know that time how long domain is registered doesn't mean anything. You can register new domain, push it on seo and make it ranked better than some old registered domain. Like you said it means nothing unless it have running website on it. And im not searching domains on godaddy but for domains i have searched on namecheap and when i do research on domain it say it's registered on godaddy and godaddy say it's available to buy on auction. Maybe it's not godaddy who register domains, maybe it's people who register and try to sell them on godaddy auctions. My thoughts that it's godaddy who do that thing is that i experienced many times that i search some domain 5-6 times at them and it was free to register, finally when i go to register that domain few days later it say it's not available anymore and i can take it through auction.

I completely overlooked .co domains. I searched on net some adult websites and mostly are registered as .com than .net than .org. I think i will go with .com where is available than .net if .com is not available or .co if .net is not available. .org is for organisations i don't know if ill go with that.

A few registrars are scum when it comes to snatching names you search, use http://instantdomainsearch.com/ to check for names :thumbsup

Name.com is a great registrar. Great customer service, they don't steal your names, and the price is right! Check them out, they are my personal favorite.

GoDaddy doesn't own all these domains, they just run the marketplace for the actual domain owners who have them for sale.

Go with .gov or .edu

.net or .org works too.
