favicon.ico?!?!
How do you make a favicon.ico file?
its the image that shows when your visitors vist your website is it a .bmp or .gif file or something of that sort renamed? thanks in advance to all those that answer.. |
As far as I know you can just make a gif/jpg/bmp and rename it, though I've asked this question several times and never really gotten an answer so I'm going on rumors..
|
I think it just needs to be a 12 x 12 image at the root of your domain. I've never used them though so I might be wrong.

search on google.

I forget how I made mine... you need one of those icon creator programs (microangelo, etc.) or else need to save as a 16 color gif and convert it over. I'm no help.
Make one though, it's cool to check your stats and realize how many folks have your shit bookmarked :) |
Make your icon as a jpg, gif or bmp.
It has to be 32*32 pixels. When your done just save it as : favicon.ico and put in the root of your folder, (along with the index-file, etc) worked for me :) Danish Dude |

I thought it was 16x16?
|
All the favicon sites say you can't just rename the bmp or gif to favicon.ico, it has to be created with an icon editor, like Microangelo. So I guess when renameing works for some, it might not work on other browsers.
So why not just grab microangelo, import the image and save as ico? |
Yeah, the renaming won't work--its has to be made with an icon maker :( You can download a free version of an icone maker program and make the icons, its pretty easy. I don't have the link to download right now, on my other pc.
Good Luck with it :) |
or you can save a standard 32x32 image as ico... there's a free pic browser software which does it: Irfanview.
