Russian meteorite blast explained: Fireball explosion equal to 20 Hiroshimas

The NASA said the explosion in the sky of Chelyabinsk was about 300 kilotons which is equivalent of 20 Hiroshimas :helpme

The diameter of asteroid was about 15 meters, its mass was 40 tons, and its speed was about 20 km/s (before entering the atmosphere). It is exploded at 30-50 kilometers above the ground.

It is considered as a biggest asteroid since Tunguska.

Lucky it wasn't closer to the ground or directly over a major city.

pornmasta 02-16-2013 02:44 AM

wow as powerful as a nuclear missile... on a city... and there day before an asteroid is near the earth... what a coincidence...

but no radiation effect... weird

I remember hearing it exploded once it slowed down to the speed of sound, which is quite low actually, just a little over 1000 km/hr (commercial airplane speed).

seeandsee 02-16-2013 06:26 AM

that speed is catastrofic

scarlettcontent 02-16-2013 06:37 AM

any conspiracies?

Totally amazing how something that small can create that much energy.

yes, ofcourse. Dumb question.

On Above Top Secret (one of the most retarded conspiracy forums out there) the 3rd reply in the meteorite thread was already hinting at a conspiracy.
And from there on it went downhill fast.

AllAboutCams 02-16-2013 06:54 AM

Did they see it coming?

It's conspiracy of course, there is no way that they didn't noticed asteroid and reacted on time :winkwink:

Rochard 02-16-2013 08:52 AM

And yet somehow no one saw it coming?

Some Guy 02-16-2013 09:16 AM

Pretty funny that all these years later some Russians still believe America's out to get them.

"Those aren?t meteors falling, it?s the Americans testing new weapons," Zhirinovsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, told journalists several hours after the Emergencies Ministry began issuing statements on the incident, which has injured hundreds and damaged scores of buildings.

There are 100's of 1000's of small space objects are flying near the Earth's orbit. Can't see anything strange there :2 cents:

Everybody can be hit from the space at any time. Just accept it.

The formula of Impulse is: p = m * v. Hope you were learning in the high school to know this simple formula.

Last night's guest on Coast to Coast, Richard C. Hoagland. said it was a breakaway race sending us a warning.

Quote:

In the 2nd hour, Richard C. Hoagland talked about the meteorite crash in Russia and Friday's asteroid flyby. While he dismissed the possibility that the two events were related, Hoagland did express suspicion that the trajectory of the asteroid had been influenced by intelligent forces not of this Earth. To that end, he cited the uncanny flight path of the object, where it managed to avoid hitting satellites in space as well as the planet, as a potential clue that it had been steered into place. The reason for this, Hoagland suggested, may have been to warn, or even threaten, the human race about the potential dangers of an asteroid impact on the planet. During his appearance, a caller from Russia shared his first-hand report on the meteorite impact.

You can't see such a small object before it breaks the atmosphere. But even if you can, what does it change? A few seconds and it's reach the surface.

I didn't get your question. Both countries have NO missile defense systems that can intercept something moving at 20 km/s or even just a "simple" MBR, which will reach its destination point in any case. There is no protection against it.

Well they know about this one coming in 2880 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%2829075%29_1950_DA a near earth monster asteroid that has an impact probability of 1 in 300.

i guess this one that exploded in Russia was too small for us to be able to do anything about it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunguska_event

Although the meteoroid or comet appears to have burst in the air rather than hitting the surface, this event still is referred to as an impact. Estimates of the energy of the blast range from 5 to as high as 30 megatons of TNT (21?130 PJ),[7][8] with 10?15 megatons of TNT (42?63 PJ) the most likely[8]?roughly equal to the United States' Castle Bravo thermonuclear bomb tested on March 1, 1954; about 1,000 times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan; and about two-fifths the power of the later Soviet Union's own Tsar Bomba (the largest nuclear weapon ever detonated

I'm sure they did see, but it's not like the military is able to get a warning out to the public that quickly. This was something that happened in sixty seconds - it was over before anyone really knew what it was.

And I think it was a lot larger than we originally thought too.

I don't think it is a fake video..just the perspective doesn't let you see what its going on. My take on it is that another vino of the meteor smashed into it.

John-ACWM 02-20-2013 09:08 AM

Some scary info from NASA....

dyna mo 02-20-2013 09:13 AM

wow, 40 tons in 15m diameter object seems quite dense!

also, hiroshima = 20k tons tnt so this meteor = 400k tons of tnt from 40 tons going 20km/s.

i think a lot of peeps dont realize nothing other than vacate the area can be done.
funny talking about this with friends they were saying the other asteroid which was much bigger, if it had any threat we would "just shoot it down".
i giggled on the inside, yeah Bruce Willis is standing by.
we have no weapons to take down an asteroid traveling at those speeds.

It doesn't look like a fake because it was one of the first dashcam videos on YouTube. The zooming was made latter, but the source video is still available for everyone. Personally I think it's just a glare on the windshield :2 cents:

Because the pilot of the asteroid was drunk and he did not look in the rearview mirror. Isn't that obvious?
