Women dies from drinking too much Coke

Natasha Harris died after going into cardiac arrest in 2010.

A pathology report listed hypokalemia as a contributor to her death. This means the potassium levels in her blood were much lower than the typical range.

Shortly after Ms. Harris?s death, her family revealed she had a major addiction to Coca-Cola and would drink at least 10 liters of the sugary substance a day. The family said she would behave erratically if she didn?t have her normal amount of the soda.

Coroner David Crerar has since found it was this excessive Coke habit that caused the low potassium, which led to abnormal electrical activity in the heart, and finally the cardiac arrest that killed her.

One idiot gone, too many left.

10 liters of coke per day, that is just unbelievable. I could probably drink 2 at most and I would gross me out after a few days.

Black All Through 02-13-2013 10:32 AM

She should have snorted it instead :P

brassmonkey 02-13-2013 10:34 AM

Cant imagine the gas associated with that. I have trouble drink anything over 1 1/2 gallons I cant imagine drinking an extra gallon on top of that let alone carbonated!

seeandsee 02-13-2013 11:09 AM

lets try same with pepsi

privatesociety 02-13-2013 11:12 AM

damn, i thought i drank a lot!

Supz 02-13-2013 11:14 AM

I dont think this really has anything to do with Coke being bad for you. Everyone knows that. But 10 Liters a day was a mental issue with the lady.

The first line of the article you quoted says:

This is what is wrong with the world today. Headline should say "woman dies from being retarded" and then it should drone on and on about people's slovenly and gluttonous behavior and condemn anyone who does this shit.

And BTW... "heart attack" is irrelevant. She was going to die anyway from being a dumbass. Of course the article (or none that i can find for that matter) mentions her weight - its highly unlikely that she wasn't morbidly obese or whether or not she already had adult onset diabetes which is HIGHLY likely giving the retarded amount of super sugar she ingested every day.

I hate the fact that we have to blame "things" so we feel better about ourselves, feel like we have some control or say in our own mortality and so we can step back and say "oh, thats what did it? good! I don't do that". As a result, behaviors are never examined. Parenting is never examined etc. All anyone will get from this or remember is "woman died from coke" which isn't true. She went into cardiac arrest and how she treated her body is the reason why.

Yngwie 02-13-2013 01:46 PM

10? holy shit! That's fucking insane.

lonerunner 02-13-2013 01:59 PM

This kind of drinks can have serious problems even if you drink 2l per day. I was drinking for 2-3l every day something called Sinalco cola, and started having breathing troubles. I was choking and i couldn't sleep sometime. Now i rarely drink this drinks. And friend was drinking at least 2 bottles of coca cola daily until he started having troubles with his teethes.

yeah clearly if she was drinking RC cola instead she would have been safe and perfectly healthy ;)

low potassium levels are usually result of over consumption of salts and sugars so that would do it right there.

She was putting far more than that in her body if she was drinking 10L a day. There's 10 teaspoons of sugar in just your average 12 ounce can of soda.

Whatever it is, it's insane. It's hard to believe she wasn't 500 lbs.

mineistaken 02-14-2013 09:16 PM

Retard. Anyway its possible that journalist exaggerated the number a bit. At least 10L every day is hardly believable.

Mutt 02-14-2013 09:48 PM

i drink all day long, juice, that Mio drink, pop/soda and 2L i'd estimate i drink. dunno how anybody could physically drink 5 2L bottles of anything.

bl4h 02-14-2013 09:54 PM

soda is bad for you, but i think you could eat or drink too much of anything and die. especially at those levels. whats that old saying "too much of anything is bad"
