Anyone Here Use Blue Cross Insurance? Any Others?

I was interested in getting Blue Cross for my wife but was wondering how soon coverage would take effect. Anyone use them and have good or bad comments on them?

We used to have BC before they doubled their rates. Now we use healthnet

The coverage usually takes affect on the 1st of the calender month after all of the paperwork is squared away assuming she is approved.

Blue Cross of California fucked me over when we had our child. My ex got pregnant while we were living in California. We moved to Florida while she was 6 months pregnant and had our son here in November '94.

I assumed Blue Cross would cover the delivery here in Florida. When the hospital bills were submitted Blue Cross of California refused to pay saying now that we were in Florida we should have cancelled our California Blue Cross and Switched to Blue Cross of Florida. I thought Blue Cross was Blue Cross, but apparently its not, each state Blue Cross is its own corporate entity.

Got into a really heated battle with their customer service reps. One even had the gall to say you should have put your wife on a plane a couple days before she was going to deliver and brought her back to LA.

Then the hospital started sending me the fricking bills.

Real ream job cause we had been paying premiums for years and never even used our insurance. So I felt really ripped off.

I use them and every doctor or hospital accepts them. But they are expensive.

I use Blue Cross/Blue Shield Major Medical. Excellent. They raise their premiums ever 3 months it seems though.

I have had blue shield for years and they always pay. The only problem that I have had is ignorant doctors who do not do their job correct..

That would be exactly what I'm going through now. I have never had insurance but my wife has been to 3 doctors and none have given any help.

Does anyone know for sure how soon coverage could start? Her back is killing her so in return she is killing me. Thanks.

Blue Cross of Florida has been great! In the past 2 years I've had two surgeries... one cost about 18,000 and the other around 14,000 and I didn't have to pay one dime other than my monthly premiums! The trick is choosing the right doctors from the "network book". You have your garden variety collection of docs that don't give a crap and a few good ones that actually do care. What state are you in? My best advice is to ask around and get the names of the doctors in your area that people have had luck with.... that is how I've found mine.

I use BC and pay almost $1100 a month near Philadelphia!

They are the best, but, keep in mind BC is just a trademark. Every state is in fact a different company with different rules and regs. A few are practically insolvent, most are in pretty good shape.

So do you homework on *your* states BC, not mine.
