What is the story with the upgrade these days? I remember back in the day you could just use windows 3.11 disks or some shit. I sold my computer to a guy and he's whining that the key isn't valid- that's stupid because it is a trial version and my ad said that it was BUT this guy has been a GOOD customer over the years and I want to satisfy him if it can be done without spending too much.

Also- can I buy a key online somewhere and send it to him? He's way up in another state

I can't tell you how many times I've had people ask me to get them pirated software. While I've done this only a few times, I hate doing it! It reflects badly on me and it makes me think less of the customer for even asking. It's a ticking time bomb and something that is just waiting to blow up in your face.

As of now I have a student license to windows 8 but will not use it most likely as there's no need for it.

I buy AS-IS machines on eBay just for their COAs mainly .... some might still have some RAM or a decent processor, but even just for the COA, they are a good deal!

I then re-sell the COA (fully transferable - read: legal) -- along with the Micosoft/Digital River ISO DVD -- to my clients at a great discount ... (usually about $60)
