Where should I live... any help?
...the snow, the freezing wind, the cold... It has been over -30C in Montreal in the past few days and every year this annoying seasonal depression is hitting me... sign Even if I'm a pure Canadian (my blood must taste like maple syrup), I don't like winter and I never did. I'm made to live under the palm trees and being able to wear pumps and open toes heels all year long. Walking my dog on the beach, wearing short skirts, cropped tops.. if you see what I mean. Currently I'm reading about South Florida and California... witch one is better to live in? True LA and the surrounding have obvious pros but with this new condom laws and the fact that everybody is shooting everywhere, people are a bit more anal as far as I was told and it's a bit more complicated to shoot so many porn houses have move their shooting to Miami and south beach... what do you guys think about that? Is Miami will become the new LA porn wise? and even with all the horrifying stories about LA people, the public transport and the insane cost of living... is it THAT worth it? ...and why? |
Come down to Fort Lauderdale. We host a ton of French Canadians every winter and you'll fit right in!
It's amazing the number of Quebec and Ontario tags I see. Sometimes it seems like I see more from there than here. |

But you look amazing nude with a winter white backdrop!
|
Its still legal to shoot porn in New Hampshire. So come live with me in Maine ( just a few miles away from NH), i will keep you warm :1orglaugh
|
Florida sounds good, in fact I have a nice 4 bedroom house you can stay in too. Make a couple videos a month and rent is paid :) 10 minutes from the beach.
|
Weathers awesome in San Diego :)

Arizona's the way to go, Ariel. California's a mess (parts of it are okay) and Florida's full of white-trash and hurricanes. Definitely consider Arizona. I'm not a huge fan of Phoenix (it's too big) but some of the surrounding areas are gorgeous.
|
I live in both LA and South Florida - trust me Cali is not warm, you think you are going to be wearing sandals and walking on the beach year round guess again..Right now its 42 degrees and miserable - True we do get some amazing sunshine and warm afternoons for parts of the winters but if you want to get warm baby - head to Key West.
|
Its the same here but its too hot i would much rather live in the cold
|
I haven't seen snow in twenty years. If I never see snow again before I die, I'm okay with that.
I love where I live in California. No traffic, no smog, low crime, small town, all the shopping I need. It gets cold in the winter (never snows) and warm in the summer. But never much of either extreme. Next up, I'm moving to Hawaii. Fuck you all. |
Weather is pretty good if you go far enough west in Canada, but there's not a lot of business / connections. You have do a lot yourself.
It was 8c and Sunny today - no snow this year. |
Florida over California? I'd take Florida.
I'd never move to a state with an income tax. |
I'd shrivel up and die in the heat.I would only visit if you need a vacation.A good Canadian kid would stay in Canada..Try Vancouver.awesome in the summer but doesn't snow in the city only the mountains..must like rain occasionally :)
|
Vegas of course. That was easy.

Ariel it's not that easy to move permanently to the US, it would be much easier just to rent/buy a place and spend the winter there. One way to do it permanently is set your business up in the US and hire one full time American employee, I don't know how US Immigration would view an 'adult' business. You could possibly use your cooking blog as your main business and hope they don't investigate too extensively.
You need to consult with a lawyer who's well versed in Canada to US immigration law. |
Mutt's right. It's actually fairly hard for a Canadian to permanently move to the US, especially if they make their living online. A few years ago Luke (atomicfrog) from teenplanet.org and I got a place together in Arizona. Because he was Canadian he had to get a visa which expired after three months so he had to return home. He spoke to a lawyer about becoming a US citizen and was told it would be a huge hassle and cost him a ridiculous amount of money. Evidently if you work online they see no reason for you to need to move and hence they deny you citizenship. Who'd have thought it'd be harder for a Canadian to get citizenship here than a Mexican? It's crazy.

You should live in my basement. That's my recommendation. If you choose not to do so and want to stay in the US I recommend San Diego. :D
|
I think she would have a very easy time here.
Cops don't ask for your passporte. Most don't even know what one is. Colorado has legal pot. Good fit for you... except the cold part. Most people never ever talk to a cop in their lives. I have been pulled over perhaps three times in my life. Went through a DUI checkpoint as a driver once. So long as you don't get into trouble most cops would assume you are an American. As for the accent you just tell them you are from Upstate New York and they'd not know the difference. |
Yeah yeah..
tits or kick rocks. |
I'll kick my old lady (and ladyboy) out if you want to come to Thailand.

there was a new law proposed and it may be in effect now, the US is giving permanent resident status to foreigners who buy a home worth minimum of $400,000 - but it has to be cash, it can't be a mortgaged property. |

Prague, Budapest or France. Just an Idea |
I have had this place in Boca Raton for 23 years. the 89 quake make up my mind between FL and CA.
I do however spend most of the year in the TN mountains. |
I always rent where I want to move and see how it goes. Take a few month long vacations and you will know asap if it fits for you or not.
I would think one of th ebig plusses is selling your place at a high in Canada and buying near a low in the states. The timing of the real estate is right. |

I would usually say southern Europe or New Zealand but its only good if you are behind a keyboard - Its much harder if you are in front of the camera. I would go with Mutts idea and do 6 months in Canada and 6 in Florida or LA. Another year you could just piss off to Australia - There are guys shooting there and you could arrange work before you go. Shoot for a few months and spend the rest touring the outback, its incredible. That would be a pretty amazing lifestyle. The more I think about all the things you could do the more jealous I get :)..... :2 cents: |

Florida = no state income tax California state income tax is 13.3% and more if you are a millionaire http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/07/us...axes.html?_r=0 |
If you're considering South Florida, and you haven't already taken a good look at the Florida Keys, here are a few links for you.
Florida Keys at Wikipedia | The Beautiful Florida Keys at FlickRiver | Google image search Nice subtropical climate with palm trees, a winter that's some of the best weather of the year. Plenty of people who love dogs, and they're even welcome in lots of the bars and some eateries. Easy and beautiful drive up to the mainland, but far enough away that you don't have to deal with most of the madness. I've lived down here since '97 if you have questions sometime. . |
